भ्रातरस्तव दुःखार्त्ताः कलत्रं च ततः परम् ॥ पृथिवी हस्ततस्तेद्य यास्यतीति मतिर्मम ॥ ४१॥
Your brothers are in distress. Your wife is grief-stricken. I think your kingdom will slip off your hands, I am sure.
english translation
bhrAtarastava duHkhArttAH kalatraM ca tataH param ॥ pRthivI hastatastedya yAsyatIti matirmama ॥ 41॥
hk transliteration by Sanscript॥ नन्दीश्वर उवाच ॥ इत्युक्तं परमेशेन पार्थदार्ढ्यपरीक्षया ॥ सर्वथार्जुनरक्षार्थं धृतरूपेण शंभुना ॥ ४२ ॥
Nandīśvara said:— It was just to test the firmness of Arjuna that the great lord said this, the great lord Śiva who had assumed that form to protect Arjuna by all means.

॥ nandIzvara uvAca ॥ ityuktaM paramezena pArthadArDhyaparIkSayA ॥ sarvathArjunarakSArthaM dhRtarUpeNa zaMbhunA ॥ 42 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइत्युक्तस्तु तदागत्य सगणश्शंकरश्च तत् ॥ विस्तराद्वृत्तमखिलमर्जुनाय न्यवेदयत् ॥ ४३॥
What the lord said, the Gaṇa of Śiva mentioned that to Arjuna in detail after approaching him.

ityuktastu tadAgatya sagaNazzaMkarazca tat ॥ vistarAdvRttamakhilamarjunAya nyavedayat ॥ 43॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतच्छ्रुत्वा तु पुनः प्राह प्रार्थस्तं दूतमागतम् ॥ वाहिनीपतये वाच्यम्विपरीतम्भविष्यति ॥ ४४॥
On hearing that, Arjuna replied to the messenger “You shall tell your general that the reverse of what he says will happen to him.

tacchrutvA tu punaH prAha prArthastaM dUtamAgatam ॥ vAhinIpataye vAcyamviparItambhaviSyati ॥ 44॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयद्यहं चैव ते बाणं यच्छामि च मदीयकम् ॥ कुलस्य दूषणं चाहं भविष्यामि न संशयः ॥ ४५ ॥
If I were to give up the arrow that belongs to me I shall be the cause of ignominy to my family.

yadyahaM caiva te bANaM yacchAmi ca madIyakam ॥ kulasya dUSaNaM cAhaM bhaviSyAmi na saMzayaH ॥ 45 ॥
