Shiva Purana
तत्तपःसुपरीक्षार्थं सप्तर्षीन्प्रैषयच्छिवः॥ तपःस्थानं तु पार्वत्या नानालीलाविशारदः ॥ ४॥
In order to test her penance, Śiva an expert in various kinds of sports sent the seven sages to the penance grove of Pārvatī.
