॥ भिक्षुवर्य्य उवाच ॥ शृणु प्रीत्या विप्रपत्नि बालस्यास्य पुरेहितम् ॥ सर्वमन्यस्य सुप्रीत्या वक्ष्यते तत्त्वतोऽनघे ॥ ३६ ॥
The mendicant said:— O brahmin lady, listen with pleasure to the antecedents of this boy. O sinless one, I shall mention all the details to you.
english translation
सुतो विदर्भराजस्य शिवभक्तस्य धीमतः ॥ अयं सत्यरथस्यैव स्वधर्मनिरतस्य हि ॥ ३७॥
This boy is the son of Satyaratha, king of Vidarbha a great devotee of Śiva and devoted to his duty.

शृणु सत्यरथो राजा हतः शाल्वे रणे परैः ॥ तत्पत्नी निशि सुव्यग्रा निर्ययौ स्वगृहाद्द्रुतम् ॥ ३८ ॥
Listen, the king Satyaratha was killed by his enemies in the battle. His excited and distressed wife set out from the palace at night.

असूत तनयं चैनं समायाता प्रगेऽत्र हि ॥ सरोवतीर्णा तृषया ग्रस्ता ग्राहेण दैवतः ॥ ३९ ॥
She came here in the morning and gave birth to this boy. Due to thirst she got into the lake and as fate would have it, was seized by the crocodile.

नन्दीश्वर उवाच ॥ इति तस्य समुत्पत्तिं तत्पितुः संगरे मृतिम् ॥ तन्मातृमरणं ग्राहात्सर्वं तस्य न्यवेदयत्॥ ४०॥
Nandīśvara said:— Thus he narrated to her all the details, the manner of his birth, the death of his father in the battle and that of his mother due to the crocodile.
