उपाकर्मं ततः कृत्वा वेदानध्यापयत्सुधीः ॥ अब्दं वेदान्स विधिनाऽध्यैष्ट सांगपदक्रमान् ॥ ३६ ॥
After celebrating the Upākarma rite, the intelligent sage taught him the Vedas. The boy learned the Vedas for a year with their ancillaries. He learnt the Padapāṭha and Kramapāṭha of the Vedas.
english translation
upAkarmaM tataH kRtvA vedAnadhyApayatsudhIH ॥ abdaM vedAnsa vidhinA'dhyaiSTa sAMgapadakramAn ॥ 36 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविद्याजातं समस्तं च साक्षिमात्रं गुरोमुखात् ॥ विनयादिगुणानाविष्कुर्वञ्जग्राह शक्तिमान् ॥ ३७ ॥
Evincing his humility and other qualities, the competent youth grasped the lore almost by himself but formally through the preceptor just as a medium.
english translation
vidyAjAtaM samastaM ca sAkSimAtraM guromukhAt ॥ vinayAdiguNAnAviSkurvaJjagrAha zaktimAn ॥ 37 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततोऽथ नवमे वर्षे पित्रोश्शुश्रूषणे रतम् ॥ वैश्वानरं गृहपतिं द्रष्टुमायाच्च नारदः ॥ ३८ ॥
In his ninth year, Nārada came there to see Gṛhapati, son of Viśvānara, and found him engaged in serving his parents.
english translation
tato'tha navame varSe pitrozzuzrUSaNe ratam ॥ vaizvAnaraM gRhapatiM draSTumAyAcca nAradaH ॥ 38 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविश्वानरोटजम्प्राप्य देवर्षिस्तं तु कौतुकी ॥ अपृच्छत्कुशलन्तत्र गृहीतार्धासनः क्रमात् ॥ ३९ ॥
The divine sage reached the hut of Viśvānara, received due hospitality and seated himself. Eagerly he enquired of his health.

vizvAnaroTajamprApya devarSistaM tu kautukI ॥ apRcchatkuzalantatra gRhItArdhAsanaH kramAt ॥ 39 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततः सर्वं च तद्भाग्यं पुत्रधर्मं च सम्मुखे ॥ वैश्वानरं समवदत्स्मृत्वा शिवपदाम्बुजम् ॥ ४०॥
He remembered the lotus-like feet of Śiva and mentioned to Viśvānara the future fortune and activities of his son.

tataH sarvaM ca tadbhAgyaM putradharmaM ca sammukhe ॥ vaizvAnaraM samavadatsmRtvA zivapadAmbujam ॥ 40॥
