    सत्त्वं रजस्तम इति गुणाः प्रकृतिसम्भवाः । निबध्नन्ति महाबाहो देहे देहिनमव्ययम् ॥ १४-५॥sattvaM rajastama iti guNAH prakRtisambhavAH । nibadhnanti mahAbAho dehe dehinamavyayam ॥ 14-5॥O Mahabaho ( mighty-armed Arjuna ), the three Gunas - Sattva, Rajas and Tamas that arise from the Prakriti. They bind Aatma ( the immutable self ) in the body.

    यथा प्रकाशयत्येकः कृत्स्नं लोकमिमं रविः । क्षेत्रं क्षेत्री तथा कृत्स्नं प्रकाशयति भारत ॥ १३-३४॥yathA prakAzayatyekaH kRtsnaM lokamimaM raviH । kSetraM kSetrI tathA kRtsnaM prakAzayati bhArata ॥ 13-34॥O Bharata ( Arjuna ), Just as the one sun illumines the whole world, so does Kshetragya ( the Knower of the Field or the self), O Arjuna, illumine Kshetra ( the whole Field or the body).

    प्रकृत्यैव च कर्माणि क्रियमाणानि सर्वशः । यः पश्यति तथात्मानमकर्तारं स पश्यति ॥ १३-३०॥prakRtyaiva ca karmANi kriyamANAni sarvazaH । yaH pazyati tathAtmAnamakartAraM sa pazyati ॥ 13-30॥He who sees that all acts are done universally by Prakriti alone and likewise that the self is not the doer, he sees indeed.

    समं सर्वेषु भूतेषु तिष्ठन्तं परमेश्वरम् । विनश्यत्स्वविनश्यन्तं यः पश्यति स पश्यति ॥ १३-२८॥samaM sarveSu bhUteSu tiSThantaM paramezvaram । vinazyatsvavinazyantaM yaH pazyati sa pazyati ॥ 13-28॥He sees who sees Parmeshwar ( the supreme Lord ) as existing equally in all beings, and as the Imperishable among the perishable.

    अन्ये त्वेवमजानन्तः श्रुत्वान्येभ्य उपासते । तेऽपि चातितरन्त्येव मृत्युं श्रुतिपरायणाः ॥ १३-२६॥anye tvevamajAnantaH zrutvAnyebhya upAsate । te'pi cAtitarantyeva mRtyuM zrutiparAyaNAH ॥ 13-26॥Others again, having no direct knowledge but only hearing from others, nevertheless worship, and they, too, being devoted to what they have heard, do cross over death.

    अर्जुन उवाच । एवं सततयुक्ता ये भक्तास्त्वां पर्युपासते । ये चाप्यक्षरमव्यक्तं तेषां के योगवित्तमाः ॥ १२-१॥arjuna uvAca । evaM satatayuktA ye bhaktAstvAM paryupAsate । ye cApyakSaramavyaktaM teSAM ke yogavittamAH ॥ 12-1॥Arjuna said, those devotees, who, ever integrated, thus meditate on You, and those again, who meditate on the Imperishable and the Unmanifested - which of them are better versed in Yoga?

    य एवं वेत्ति पुरुषं प्रकृतिं च गुणैः सह । सर्वथा वर्तमानोऽपि न स भूयोऽभिजायते ॥ १३-२४॥ya evaM vetti puruSaM prakRtiM ca guNaiH saha । sarvathA vartamAno'pi na sa bhUyo'bhijAyate ॥ 13-24॥He who knows thus the Purush ( Person ) and Prakriti ( Nature ) along with the Gunas( alities ) will not be born again, in whatever way he may live.
