    ब्राह्मणेषु च विद्वांसो विद्वत्सु कृतबुद्धयः । कृतबुद्धिषु कर्तारः कर्तृषु ब्रह्मवेदिनः ॥ ९७ ॥brAhmaNeSu ca vidvAMso vidvatsu kRtabuddhayaH । kRtabuddhiSu kartAraH kartRSu brahmavedinaH ॥ 97 ॥Of Brahmanas, those learned (in the Veda); of the learned, those who recognise (the necessity and the manner of performing the prescribed duties); of those who possess this knowledge, those who perform them; of the performers, those who know the Brahman.

    श्वेतद्वीपं गतवति त्वयि द्रष्टुं तदीश्वरम् । ब्रह्मवादः सुसंवृत्तः श्रुतयो यत्र शेरते । तत्र हायमभूत्प्रश्नस्त्वं मां यमनुपृच्छसि ॥ १०-८७-१० ॥zvetadvIpaM gatavati tvayi draSTuM tadIzvaram । brahmavAdaH susaMvRttaH zrutayo yatra zerate । tatra hAyamabhUtpraznastvaM mAM yamanupRcchasi ॥ 10-87-10 ॥At that time you happened to be visiting the Lord on Śvetadvīpa — that Supreme Lord in whom the Vedas lie down to rest during the period of universal annihilation. A lively discussion arose among the sages on Janaloka as to the nature of the Supreme Absolute Truth. Indeed, the same question arose then that you are asking Me now. ॥ 10-87-10 ॥

    उत्तमाङ्गोद्भवाज् ज्येष्ठ्याद् ब्रह्मणश्चैव धारणात् । सर्वस्यैवास्य सर्गस्य धर्मतो ब्राह्मणः प्रभुः ॥ ९३ ॥uttamAGgodbhavAj jyeSThyAd brahmaNazcaiva dhAraNAt । sarvasyaivAsya sargasya dharmato brAhmaNaH prabhuH ॥ 93 ॥As the Brahmana sprang from (Brahman’s) mouth, as he was the first-born, and as he possesses the Veda, he is by right the lord of this whole creation.

    श्रीभगवानुवाच स्वायम्भुव ब्रह्मसत्रं जनलोकेऽभवत्पुरा । तत्रस्थानां मानसानां मुनीनामूर्ध्वरेतसाम् ॥ १०-८७-९ ॥zrIbhagavAnuvAca svAyambhuva brahmasatraM janaloke'bhavatpurA । tatrasthAnAM mAnasAnAM munInAmUrdhvaretasAm ॥ 10-87-9 ॥The Personality of Godhead said: O son of self-born Brahmā, once long ago on Janaloka, wise sages who resided there performed a great sacrifice to the Absolute Truth by vibrating transcendental sounds. These sages, mental sons of Brahmā, were all perfect celibates. ॥ 10-87-9 ॥

    एकमेव तु शूद्रस्य प्रभुः कर्म समादिशत् । एतेषामेव वर्णानां शुश्रूषामनसूयया ॥ ९१ ॥ekameva tu zUdrasya prabhuH karma samAdizat । eteSAmeva varNAnAM zuzrUSAmanasUyayA ॥ 91 ॥One occupation only the lord prescribed to the Sudra, to serve meekly even these (other) three castes.
