    मैत्रेय उवाच देवहूत्यपि सन्देशं गौरवेण प्रजापतेः । सम्यक् श्रद्धाय पुरुषं कूटस्थमभजद्गुरुम् ॥ ३-२४-५ ॥maitreya uvAca devahUtyapi sandezaM gauraveNa prajApateH । samyak zraddhAya puruSaM kUTasthamabhajadgurum ॥ 3-24-5 ॥Śrī Maitreya said: Devahūti was fully faithful and respectful toward the direction of her husband, Kardama, who was one of the Prajāpatis, or generators of human beings in the universe. O great sage, she thus began to worship the master of the universe, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is situated in everyone’s heart. ॥ 3-24-5 ॥

    स त्वयाऽऽराधितः शुक्लो वितन्वन् मामकं यशः । छेत्ता ते हृदयग्रन्थिमौदर्यो ब्रह्मभावनः ॥ ३-२४-४ ॥sa tvayA''rAdhitaH zuklo vitanvan mAmakaM yazaH । chettA te hRdayagranthimaudaryo brahmabhAvanaH ॥ 3-24-4 ॥The Personality of Godhead, being worshiped by you, will spread my name and fame. He will vanquish the knot of your heart by becoming your son and teaching knowledge of Brahman. ॥ 3-24-4 ॥

    धृतव्रतासि भद्रं ते दमेन नियमेन च । तपोद्रविणदानैश्च श्रद्धया चेश्वरं भज ॥ ३-२४-३ ॥dhRtavratAsi bhadraM te damena niyamena ca । tapodraviNadAnaizca zraddhayA cezvaraM bhaja ॥ 3-24-3 ॥You have undertaken sacred vows. God will bless you. Hence you should worship the Lord with great faith, through sensory control, religious observances, austerities and gifts of your money in charity. ॥ 3-24-3 ॥

    ऋषिरुवाच मा खिदो राजपुत्रीत्थमात्मानं प्रत्यनिन्दिते । भगवांस्तेऽक्षरो गर्भमदूरात्सम्प्रपत्स्यते ॥ ३-२४-२ ॥RSiruvAca mA khido rAjaputrItthamAtmAnaM pratyanindite । bhagavAMste'kSaro garbhamadUrAtsamprapatsyate ॥ 3-24-2 ॥The sage said: Do not be disappointed with yourself, O princess. You are actually praiseworthy. The infallible Supreme Personality of Godhead will shortly enter your womb as your son. ॥ 3-24-2 ॥

    मैत्रेय उवाच निर्वेदवादिनीमेवं मनोर्दुहितरं मुनिः । दयालुः शालिनीमाह शुक्लाभिव्याहृतं स्मरन् ॥ ३-२४-१ ॥maitreya uvAca nirvedavAdinImevaM manorduhitaraM muniH । dayAluH zAlinImAha zuklAbhivyAhRtaM smaran ॥ 3-24-1 ॥The great sage Maitreya said: Recalling the words of Lord Viṣṇu, the merciful sage Kardama replied as follows to Svāyambhuva Manu’s praiseworthy daughter, Devahūti, who was speaking words full of renunciation. ॥ 3-24-1 ॥

    साहं भगवतो नूनं वञ्चिता मायया दृढम् । यत्त्वां विमुक्तिदं प्राप्य न मुमुक्षेय बन्धनात् ॥ ३-२३-५७ ॥sAhaM bhagavato nUnaM vaJcitA mAyayA dRDham । yattvAM vimuktidaM prApya na mumukSeya bandhanAt ॥ 3-23-57 ॥My lord, surely I have been solidly cheated by the insurmountable illusory energy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, for in spite of having obtained your association, which gives liberation from material bondage, I did not seek such liberation. ॥ 3-23-57 ॥

    नेह यत्कर्म धर्माय न विरागाय कल्पते । न तीर्थपदसेवायै जीवन्नपि मृतो हि सः ॥ ३-२३-५६ ॥neha yatkarma dharmAya na virAgAya kalpate । na tIrthapadasevAyai jIvannapi mRto hi saH ॥ 3-23-56 ॥Anyone whose work is not meant to elevate him to religious life, anyone whose religious ritualistic performances do not raise him to renunciation, and anyone situated in renunciation that does not lead him to devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, must be considered dead, although he is breathing. ॥ 3-23-56 ॥

    सङ्गो यः संसृतेर्हेतुरसत्सु विहितोऽधिया । स एव साधुषु कृतो निःसङ्गत्वाय कल्पते ॥ ३-२३-५५ ॥saGgo yaH saMsRterheturasatsu vihito'dhiyA । sa eva sAdhuSu kRto niHsaGgatvAya kalpate ॥ 3-23-55 ॥Association for sense gratification is certainly the path of bondage. But the same type of association, performed with a saintly person, leads to the path of liberation, even if performed without knowledge. ॥ 3-23-55 ॥

    इन्द्रियार्थेषु सज्जन्त्या प्रसङ्गस्त्वयि मे कृतः । अजानन्त्या परं भावं तथाप्यस्त्वभयाय मे ॥ ३-२३-५४ ॥indriyArtheSu sajjantyA prasaGgastvayi me kRtaH । ajAnantyA paraM bhAvaM tathApyastvabhayAya me ॥ 3-23-54 ॥Not knowing your transcendental situation, I have loved you while remaining attached to the objects of the senses. Nonetheless, let the affinity I have developed for you rid me of all fear. ॥ 3-23-54 ॥

    एतावतालं कालेन व्यतिक्रान्तेन मे प्रभो । इन्द्रियार्थप्रसङ्गेन परित्यक्तपरात्मनः ॥ ३-२३-५३ ॥etAvatAlaM kAlena vyatikrAntena me prabho । indriyArthaprasaGgena parityaktaparAtmanaH ॥ 3-23-53 ॥Until now we have simply wasted so much of our time in sense gratification, neglecting to cultivate knowledge of the Supreme Lord. ॥ 3-23-53 ॥
