    पितुर्हि समतिक्रान्तं पुत्रो यस्साधु मन्यते । तदपत्यं मतं लोके विपरीतमतोऽन्यथा ॥ २-१०६-१५piturhi samatikrAntaM putro yassAdhu manyate । tadapatyaM mataM loke viparItamato'nyathA ॥ 2-106-15One who sets right the wrongs done by his father is a true son. Otherwise the son becomes just the opposite. (He is not a son to the father). ॥ 2-106-15॥

Therefore, you may think over the matter prudently and set it right. ॥ 2-106-14॥

    अन्तकाले हि भूतानि मुह्यन्तीति पुरा श्रुतिः । राज्ञैवं कुर्वता लोके प्रत्यक्षं सा श्रुतिः कृता ॥ २-१०६-१३antakAle hi bhUtAni muhyantIti purA zrutiH । rAjJaivaM kurvatA loke pratyakSaM sA zrutiH kRtA ॥ 2-106-13There is an ancient saying that at the time of death, the intellect of people is deluded. By conducting himself in this way, king ( Dasaratha ) has proved it. ॥ 2-106-13॥

Rama, conversant with righteousness, will any one who knows the meaning of righteousness, do such a sinful act contrary to dharma and artha to please a woman? ॥ 2-106-12॥

    गुरुः क्रियावान्वृद्धश्च राजा प्रेतः पितेति च । तातं न परिगर्हेयं दैवतं चेति संसदि ॥ २-१०६-११guruH kriyAvAnvRddhazca rAjA pretaH piteti ca । tAtaM na parigarheyaM daivataM ceti saMsadi ॥ 2-106-11King ( Dasaratha ), my father and preceptor, is godlike to me. Devoted to meritorious acts, he departed from this world in his old age. For this reason, I cannot reproach him (publicly) in this assembly (of men). ॥ 2-106-11॥

    कथं दशरथाज्जातः शुद्धाभिजनकर्मणः । जानन् धर्ममधर्मिष्ठं कुर्यां कर्म जुगुप्सितम् ॥ २-१०६-१०kathaM dazarathAjjAtaH zuddhAbhijanakarmaNaH । jAnan dharmamadharmiSThaM kuryAM karma jugupsitam ॥ 2-106-10How shall I, born to Dasaratha of noble race and righteous deeds, with the knowledge of dharma, do such a reprehensible and unrighteous deed? ॥ 2-106-10॥

    धर्मबन्धेन बद्धोऽस्मि तेनेमां नेह मातरम् । हन्मितीव्रेण दण्डेन दण्डार्हां पापकारिणीम् ॥ २-१०६-९ dharmabandhena baddho'smi tenemAM neha mAtaram । hanmitIvreNa daNDena daNDArhAM pApakAriNIm ॥ 2-106-9 I am bound by a bond of righteousness for which I am unble to slay my mother who deserves severe punishment for her sinful acts. ॥ 2-106-9॥

    प्रोषिते मयि यत्पापं मात्रा मत्कारणात्कृतम् । क्षुद्रया तदनिष्टं मे प्रसीदतु भवान्मम ॥ २-१०६-८proSite mayi yatpApaM mAtrA matkAraNAtkRtam । kSudrayA tadaniSTaM me prasIdatu bhavAnmama ॥ 2-106-8When I was away from home, my meanminded mother committed a sin for my sake which I never wished. You may pardon me graciously. ॥ 2-106-8॥

    न त्वामेवं गुणैर्युक्तं प्रभवाभवकोविदम् । अविषह्यतमं दुःखमासादयितुमर्हति ॥ २-१०६-७na tvAmevaM guNairyuktaM prabhavAbhavakovidam । aviSahyatamaM duHkhamAsAdayitumarhati ॥ 2-106-7It is not proper for a virtuous man like you, who is cognizant in matters of life and death, to be overwhelmed by such insufferable grief. ॥ 2-106-7॥

    अमरोपमसत्त्व स्त्वं महात्मा सत्यसङ्गरः । सर्वज्ञः सर्वदर्शी च बुद्धिमांश्चासि राघव ॥ २-१०६-६amaropamasattva stvaM mahAtmA satyasaGgaraH । sarvajJaH sarvadarzI ca buddhimAMzcAsi rAghava ॥ 2-106-6Oh ! magnanimous Raaghava ( Rama ), your nature is divine and you are true to your promises. You are omniscient, all-seeing and wise. ॥ 2-106-6॥
