First, the ground should be cleaned by removing any impurities using a plough. The bones, pebbles, and clods of earth, along with any grass and shrubs, should be cleared.
After cleaning the ground, the dimensions should be marked. The auspicious signs and constellations such as the three northern stars, Shravana, Vishakha, and Revati should be considered, as well as the ones that are favorable for the dramatic work. A white thread should be spread according to the alignment with the Pushya Nakshatra.
कार्पासं बाल्बजं वापि मौञ्जं वाल्कलमेव च । सूत्रं बुधैस्तु कर्तव्यं यस्य च्छेदो न विद्यते ॥ २८॥
The thread should be made of cotton, hemp, or jute, and it should be one that is not easily broken, as advised by the wise. It must be strong and durable, without any weak points or breaks.
If the thread is severed halfway, the master’s death is certain. If the thread is cut into three parts, it is considered a sign of the wrath of the ruler.
If the thread is cut into four parts, it is considered a loss for the practitioner. If the thread falls from the hand, it is considered a defect or inauspicious.
