शरीरं च मृतस्यैकं समबध्नन्त पाण्डवाः विवर्जयिष्यन्ति नरा दूराद एवं शमीम इमाम आबद्धं शवम अत्रेति गन्धम आघ्राय पूतिकम ।। ४-५-२७ ।।
'And the Pandavas hung a corpse upon the tree, knowing that people, catching its foul stench, would say, ‘Surely, a dead body is tied here,’ and would thus keep away from it.' ।। 4-5-27 ।।
अशीतिशत वर्षेयं माता न इति वादिनः कुलधर्मॊ ऽयम अस्माकं पूर्वैर आचरितॊ ऽपि च समासजाना वृक्षे ऽसमिन्न इति वै वयाहरन्ति ते ।। ४-५-२८ ।।
'And when the shepherds and cowherds asked about the corpse, those repressors of foes replied, “She is our mother, aged a hundred and eighty years. According to the tradition upheld by our forefathers, we have suspended her body here.”' ।। 4-5-28 ।।
'And for purposes of non-discovery Yudhisthira kept these (five) names for himself and his brothers respectively, viz., Jaya, Jayanta, Vijaya, Jayatsena, and Jayatvala.' ।। 4-5-30 ।।
