[वै] अथ दुर्यॊधनॊ राजा समरे भीष्मम अब्रवीत दरॊणं च रथशार्दूलं कृक्पं च सुमहारथम ।। ४-४२-१ ।।
'[Vaiśaṃpāyana said:] Then King Duryodhana, in the battle, spoke to Bhishma, and to Drona — the tiger among chariot-warriors — and to Kripa, the great chariot-warrior.' ।। 4-42-1 ।।
उक्तॊ ऽयम अर्थ आचार्यॊ मया कर्णेन चासकृत पुनर एव च वक्ष्यामि न हि तृप्यामि तं बरुवन ।। ४-४२-२ ।।
'Both Karna and I have already spoken of this to our revered preceptors, yet I must repeat it, for I am not satisfied with having said it once.' ।। 4-42-2 ।।
पराजितैर हि वस्तव्यं तैश च दवादश वत्सरान वने जनपदे ऽजञातैर एष एव पणॊ हि नः ।। ४-४२-३ ।।
'The sons of Pandu pledged that, if defeated at dice, they would spend twelve years in exile within lands and forests known to us, followed by one year living in concealment, unknown to us.' ।। 4-42-3 ।।
'That thirteenth year, instead of having ended, is still in progress. Vibhatsu, therefore, who was bound to remain undiscovered, has now appeared before us.' ।। 4-42-4 ।।
