शिवाश च विनदन्त्य एता दीप्तायां दिशि दारुणाः हयाश चाश्रूणि मुञ्चन्ति धवजाः कम्पन्त्य अकम्पिताः ।। ४-३७-६ ।।

'The jackals are howling hideously, terrified by the fires blazing on all sides. The horses too are shedding tears, and our banners tremble though untouched by any wind.' ।। 4-37-6 ।।

zivAza ca vinadantya etA dIptAyAM dizi dAruNAH hayAza cAzrUNi muJcanti dhavajAH kampantya akampitAH || 4-37-6 ||

यादृशान्य अत्र रूपाणि संदृश्यन्ते बहून्य अपि यत्ता भवन्तस तिष्ठन्तु सयाद युद्धं समुपस्थितम ।। ४-३७-७ ।।

'These ominous signs clearly foretell a great calamity. Remain alert and protect yourselves—arrange the troops in battle formation and stand ready, for a fierce slaughter awaits.' ।। 4-37-7 ।।

yAdRzAnya atra rUpANi saMdRzyante bahUnya api yattA bhavantasa tiSThantu sayAda yuddhaM samupasthitama || 4-37-7 ||

रक्षध्वम अपि चात्मानं वयूहध्वं वाहिनीम अपि वैशसं च परतीक्षध्वं रक्षध्वं चापि गॊधनम ।। ४-३७-८ ।।

'Since such numerous and strange omens are seen here, let all of you stand ready and prepared—battle may well be at hand.' ।। 4-37-8 ।।

'This mighty bowman, the foremost among all wielders of arms—this hero who approaches in the guise of a person of the third sex—is none other than the son of Pritha. Of this, there can be no doubt.' ।। 4-37-9 ।।

स एष पार्थॊ विक्रान्तः सव्यसाची परंतपः नायुद्धेन निवर्तेत सर्वैर अपि मरुद्गणैः ।। ४-३७-१० ।।

'Then, addressing Bhishma, the preceptor Drona continued: “O son of the Ganges, though clad in the guise of a woman, this is none other than Kiritin—so named from the celestial tree, the son of the slayer of mountains. His banner bears the emblem of the destroyer of Lanka’s gardens. Today, having vanquished us, he will surely take the kine! This mighty chastiser of foes is Pritha’s valiant son, famed as Savyasachi. Even if faced by the gods and demons together, he would not retreat from battle.' ।। 4-37-10 ।।
