[विदुर] महाराज विजानीहि यत तवां वक्ष्यामि तच छृणु मुमूर्षॊर औषधम इव न रॊचेतापि ते शरुतम ।। २-५५-१ ।।
'Vaiśampāyana said, "During this gambling session, which is destined to bring about Yudhishthira's ruin, Vidura, the dispeller of doubts, addressed Dhritarashtra: 'O great king of the Bharata race, listen to what I have to say. Though my words may not be pleasing, like medicine to a dying patient, they are essential for your understanding.'"' ।। 2-55-1 ।।
'When Duryodhana, with his sinful mind, cried out discordantly like a jackal immediately after his birth, it was evident that he was destined to bring about the destruction of the Bharata race.' ।। 2-55-2 ।।
'Know, O King, that he will be the cause of your destruction. A jackal, in the guise of Duryodhana, resides in your house, and you remain unaware due to your folly. Listen now to the words of the poet that I shall quote.' ।। 2-55-3 ।।
'Those who gather honey from mountains, once they have obtained their prize, do not realize the danger of their situation. Absorbed in their pursuit, they climb perilous heights and, failing to notice their impending fall, meet with destruction.' ।। 2-55-4 ।।
'This Duryodhana, similarly intoxicated by the game of dice, like the honey-gatherer absorbed in his pursuit, fails to see the consequences. By making enemies of these great warriors, he remains blind to the impending downfall that awaits him.' ।। 2-55-5 ।।
