'It has been heard that in the Krita Age, Yauvanaswin subdued all, Bhagiratha abolished all taxes and treated his subjects kindly, Kartavirya excelled through his ascetic energy, Lord Bharata by his strength and valor, and Maruta through his prosperity—all these five became emperors.' ।। 2-14-11 ।।
'But, O Yudhishthira, you who aspire to imperial dignity, deserve it not just by one but by all these qualities: victory, protection of your people, virtue, prosperity, and strategy.' ।। 2-14-12 ।।
'Understand, O leader of the Kuru lineage, that Jarasandha, the son of Vrihadratha, is such a contender for imperial dignity. Even a hundred royal lineages have failed to oppose Jarasandha due to his strength. Therefore, he may be considered an emperor by virtue of his power.' ।। 2-14-13 ।।
रत्नभाजॊ हि राजानॊ जरासंधम उपासते न च तुष्यति तेनापि बाल्याद अनयम आस्थितः ।। २-१४-१४ ।।
'Kings adorned with jewels worship Jarasandha with gifts of jewels. However, being wicked from his childhood, he is hardly satisfied with such worship.' ।। 2-14-14 ।।
मूर्धाभिषिक्तं नृपतिं परधानपुरुषं बलात आदत्ते न च नॊ दृष्टॊ ऽभागः पुरुषतः कव चित ।। २-१४-१५ ।।
'Having become the foremost among all, he still attacks kings wearing crowns with violence. There is no king from whom he does not exact tribute.' ।। 2-14-15 ।।
