होरादिनेशशाशिनां प्रबलो भवेद्य- स्तत्कण्टकादिषु गता कथिता दशेशाः। पूर्वा दशातिबलिनः सदृशोऽब्दवृन्दो साम्ये भवेच्च शरदां प्रथमोदितस्य॥१॥
Of the Lagna, the Sun and the Moon, whichever is strongest, his Dasa comes first. Then follow in their order of strength those that are situated in the Kendra and other houses. If they possess equal strength, that which gives a larger number of years will lead. If there be equality even in the number of years contributed, that which rises first after the next conjunction will take precedence; and when the risings are also simultaneous, that which has the first mention will have the lead.

According to the strength of the Lagna the Sun and the Moon, the three stages of life of the native will be effective, in order. It should be understood that it is through these three significators that the effectiveness (strength) or otherwise of these three stages is to be, ascertained or determined.

If the owner of the sign occupied by the Moon be exalted, occupy a friend's house, be in his own Varga, or his own Rasi and have no aspect of other malefics, he will reveal in a powerful manner all the planet's qualities and prove propitious to the native even from his very birth.

If all the benefics, occupy the 3rd, 6th, and 11th houses, the person concerned will enjoy all happiness in his early period of life. If malefics should occupy the same houses, he will have wife, wealth and children and all comforts in his later life.

triSaTkalAbheSugataiH samastaiH saumyaiH sukhAdIni bhavanti bAlye। tatraiva pApairvayaso'ntyakAle jAyArthaputrA hi bhavanti samyak॥4॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptलग्नस्य पूर्वं न भवेद्दशा तु यदा तदा त्वन्यदशा भवेत्सा। जन्ये तु नेच्छन्ति परे तु केचिद्गुरुप्रसादेन च लभ्यमेतत्॥५॥
If at a birth, the Lagna Dasa does not occur first, then another Dasa will take its place. But others do not accept this view. As this involves a conflict of opinions, the correct procedure must be understood only by the grace of one's teacher.
