एवं सूक्ष्मतरं ज्ञात्वा शिशोर्दोषगुणान्वदेत्। आद्वादशाब्दं मर्त्यानामायुर्ज्ञातुं न शक्यते। जपहोमचिकित्साद्यैर्बालं रक्षेद्गुणाधिकैः॥२२॥
One should begin to predict the merits and demerits of a child only after ascertaining thus the aforementioned things minutely. It is not possible to ascertain the longevity of human beings until they are 12 years of age. Hence children should be protected through Japa (incantations of holy Mantras, worship of the Fire-God, performance of sacrifices, by administering medicines, etc.,) all of which are productive of immense good.
