फेण्टकस्य वामतश्चिरिल्विरिल्विति स्वनः । शोभनो निगद्यते प्रदीप्त उच्यते अपरः ॥ ८८-३१ ॥
If the Pheṇṭaka be heard to cry as cirilv-virilvi on the left side, there will be prosperity; if the sound be otherwise there will be evil.
english translation
pheNTakasya vAmatazcirilvirilviti svanaH । zobhano nigadyate pradIpta ucyate aparaH ॥ 88-31 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptश्रेष्ठं खरं स्थास्नुं उशन्ति वामम् ओंकारशब्देन हितं च यातुः । अतो अपरं गर्दभनादितं यत् सर्वऽश्रयं तत्प्रवदन्ति दीप्तम् ॥ ८८-३२ ॥
If the cry of the ass be long and on the left side, it indicates good luck. If the sound be Oṃ, a person proceeding on a journey will meet with success; otherwise, the cry is malefic.
english translation
zreSThaM kharaM sthAsnuM uzanti vAmam oMkArazabdena hitaM ca yAtuH । ato aparaM gardabhanAditaM yat sarva'zrayaM tatpravadanti dIptam ॥ 88-32 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptआकाररावी समृगः कुरङ्ग ओकाररावी पृषतश्च पूर्णः । ये अन्ये स्वरास्ते कथिताः प्रदीप्ताः पूर्णाः शुभाः पापफलाः प्रदीप्ताः ॥ ८८-३३ ॥
If stag and the deer be heard to sound as Ā and if the spotted antelope be heard to sound as O, there will be good luck; if otherwise there will be misery.
english translation
AkArarAvI samRgaH kuraGga okArarAvI pRSatazca pUrNaH । ye anye svarAste kathitAH pradIptAH pUrNAH zubhAH pApaphalAH pradIptAH ॥ 88-33 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptभीता रुवन्ति कुकुकुक्विति ताम्रचूडास् त्यक्त्वा रुतानि भयदान्यपराणि रात्रौ । स्वस्थैः स्वभावविरुतानि निशावसाने ताराणि राष्ट्रपुरपार्थिववृद्धिदानि ॥ ८८-३४ ॥
The cock crows as Kuku except when it sounds fearfully at night and also when ill; the long natural and high sound heard in the morning indicates prosperity to the country, the town and the king.
english translation
bhItA ruvanti kukukukviti tAmracUDAs tyaktvA rutAni bhayadAnyaparANi rAtrau । svasthaiH svabhAvavirutAni nizAvasAne tArANi rASTrapurapArthivavRddhidAni ॥ 88-34 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनानाविधानि विरुतानि हि छिप्पिकायास् तस्याः शुभाः कुलुकुलुर्न शुभास्तु शेषाः । यातुर्बिडालविरुतं न शुभं सदैव गोस्तु क्षुतं मरणं एव करोति यातुः ॥ ८८-३५ ॥
The Chippikā sounds in various ways. The Kulu-kulu sound is auspicious; other sounds are inauspicious. The sound of the cat is always auspicious to a traveller; if the cow be seen to sneeze, it indicates the death of the person proceeding on a journey.
english translation
nAnAvidhAni virutAni hi chippikAyAs tasyAH zubhAH kulukulurna zubhAstu zeSAH । yAturbiDAlavirutaM na zubhaM sadaiva gostu kSutaM maraNaM eva karoti yAtuH ॥ 88-35 ॥
