कुक्कुटस्त्वृजुतनूरुहाङ्गुलिस्ताम्रवक्त्रनखचूलिकः सितः । रौति सुस्वरं उषात्यये च यो वृद्धिदः स नृपराष्ट्रवाजिनाम् ॥ ६३-०१ ॥
The cock (kukkuṭa) whose wings and fingers are straight, whose mouth, nail and comb are red, whose body is white, and which crows melodiously early in the morning, will bring on prosperity to the king, his kingdom and his horse.
english translation
यवग्रीवो यो वा बदरसदृशो वाअपि विहगो बृहन्मूर्धा वर्णैर्भवति बहुभिश्च रुचिरः । स शस्तः संग्रामे मधुमधुपवर्णश्च जयकृद् न शस्तो यो अतो अन्यः कृशतनुरवः खञ्जचरणः ॥ ६३-०२ ॥
The cock whose neck is of the shape of the barley, whose body is of the colour of the fruit Badarī, and one whose head is large and body of different colours, are excellent in fight. The cock (kukkuṭa) of the colour of honey or the bee will bring on success; one that is of thin body and of a weak throat and lame legs is not a good one.

कुक्कुटी च मृदुचारुभाषिणी स्निग्धमूर्तिरुचिरऽननईषणा । सा ददाति सुचिरं महीक्षितां श्रीयशोविजयवीर्यसम्पदः ॥ ६३-०३ ॥
The hen which crows softly and melodiously, whose body is fine and glossy, and whose face and eyes are beautiful, will bring to a king wealth, fame, success, health and strength.
