Brihat Samhita
यवग्रीवो यो वा बदरसदृशो वाअपि विहगो बृहन्मूर्धा वर्णैर्भवति बहुभिश्च रुचिरः । स शस्तः संग्रामे मधुमधुपवर्णश्च जयकृद् न शस्तो यो अतो अन्यः कृशतनुरवः खञ्जचरणः ॥ ६३-०२ ॥
The cock whose neck is of the shape of the barley, whose body is of the colour of the fruit Badarī, and one whose head is large and body of different colours, are excellent in fight. The cock (kukkuṭa) of the colour of honey or the bee will bring on success; one that is of thin body and of a weak throat and lame legs is not a good one.
