छित्त्वाग्रे चतुरङ्गुलं अष्टौ मूले जले क्षिपेद्यष्टिम् । उद्धृत्य पुरद्वारं शकटेन नयेन्मनुष्यैर्वा ॥ ४३-२१ ॥

Four digits of the tree at the top and eight digits at the bottom should be cut off, and then the trunk should be put into water. After being taken out it should be carried to the city-gate either through a carriage or by men.

chittvAgre caturaGgulaM aSTau mUle jale kSipedyaSTim । uddhRtya puradvAraM zakaTena nayenmanuSyairvA ॥ 43-21 ॥

अरभङ्गे बलभेदो नेम्या नाशो बलस्य विज्ञेयः । अर्थक्षयो अक्षभङ्गे तथाअणिभङ्गे च वर्द्धकिनः ॥ ४३-२२ ॥

If the spokes of the carriage were to be broken when the tree-trunk is put on it or carried by it, the king’s army would be shattered (i.e. there would be revolt), if the rim breaks, the army will be destroyed; if the axle, the king’s wealth would be lost; and if the axle-pin gives way, the carpenter will come to grief.

arabhaGge balabhedo nemyA nAzo balasya vijJeyaH । arthakSayo akSabhaGge tathAaNibhaGge ca varddhakinaH ॥ 43-22 ॥

भाद्रपदशुक्लपक्षस्याष्टम्यां नागरैर्वृतो राजा । दैवज्ञसचिवकञ्चुकिविप्रप्रमुखैः सुवेषधरैः ॥ ४३-२३ ॥

On the eighth day of the bright fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada, the king was surrounded by the citizens. They were accompanied by welldressed brāhmaṇas and others who knew the fortune.

अहताम्बरसंवीतां यष्टिं पौरन्दरीं पुरं पौरैः । स्रग्गन्धधूपयुक्तां प्रवेशयेत्शङ्खतूर्यरवैः ॥ ४३-२४ ॥

The citizens of the city carried a stick dressed in unbroken clothes With garlands, fragrant oils and incense one should enter the temple with the sounds of conches and trumpets.

ahatAmbarasaMvItAM yaSTiM paurandarIM puraM pauraiH । sraggandhadhUpayuktAM pravezayetzaGkhatUryaravaiH ॥ 43-24 ॥

रुचिरपताकातोरणवनमालाअलङ्कृतं प्रहृष्टजनम् । सम्मार्जितार्चितपथं सुवेषगणिकाजनऽकीर्णम् ॥ ४३-२५ ॥

The city was adorned with radiant banners, arched gateways, and garlands of forest flowers, and was filled with joyful people; its streets were swept and honored, and it was crowded with courtesans in beautiful attire.
