कर्णौ हिमागमे विध्येद्धात्र्यङ्कस्थस्य सान्त्वयन् । प्राग्दक्षिणं कुमारस्य भिषग्वामं तु योषितः ॥ २९ ॥

(Himagama), the ears of the healthy baby should be pierced while it is kept comfortably on the lap of the wet-nurse (Dhatri) and being cajoled. The right ear should be pierced first if the child is a male, and the left ear first if it is a female.

karNau himAgame vidhyeddhAtryaGkasthasya sAntvayan । prAgdakSiNaM kumArasya bhiSagvAmaM tu yoSitaH ॥ 29 ॥
