hk transliteration by Sanscriptकर्णौ हिमागमे विध्येद्धात्र्यङ्कस्थस्य सान्त्वयन् । प्राग्दक्षिणं कुमारस्य भिषग्वामं तु योषितः ॥ २९ ॥
(Himagama), the ears of the healthy baby should be pierced while it is kept comfortably on the lap of the wet-nurse (Dhatri) and being cajoled. The right ear should be pierced first if the child is a male, and the left ear first if it is a female.

hk transliteration by Sanscriptदक्षिणेन दधत्सूचीं पालीमन्येन पाणिना । मध्यतः कर्णपीठस्य किञ्चिद्गण्डाश्रयं प्रति ॥ ३० ॥
The physician should hold the needle with his right hand and the earlobe (pali) with the other hand. The piercing should be done in the center of the earlobe, slightly towards the cheek.
