तत्र नद्यः पश्चिमाभिमुखाः पथ्याः, लघूदकत्वात्; पूर्वाभिमुखास्तु न प्रशस्यन्ते, गुरूदकत्वात्; दक्षिणाभिमुखा नातिदोषलाः, साधारणत्वात् | तत्र सह्यप्रभवाःकुष्ठं जनयन्ति, विन्ध्यप्रभवाः कुष्ठं पाण्डुरोगं च, मलयप्रभवाः कृमीन्, महेन्द्रप्रभवाः श्लीपदोदराणि, हिमवत्प्रभवा हृद्रोगश्वयथुशिरोरोगश्लीपदगलगण्डान्, प्राच्यावन्त्या अपरावन्त्याश्चार्शांस्युपजनयन्ति, पारियात्रप्रभवाः पथ्या बलारोग्यकर्य इति ||२१||

Rivers flowing westward are beneficial due to their lightness; those flowing eastward are not recommended because of their heaviness. Rivers flowing southward are not excessively harmful, being of ordinary quality. Among these, rivers originating from the Sahyadri mountains cause leprosy, those from the Vindhya mountains cause leprosy and jaundice, those from the Malaya mountains lead to worms, those from the Mahendra mountains cause leprosy, abdominal diseases, and skin disorders, those from the Himalayas lead to heart disease, fever, head disorders, and leprosy, and those from the eastern and western regions cause various kinds of ulcers. Rivers from the Parvat region are beneficial and support strength and health.

नद्यः शीघ्रवहा लघ्व्यः प्रोक्ता याश्चामलोदकाः | गुर्व्यः शैवालसञ्छन्नाः कलुषा मन्दगाश्च याः ||२२||

Rivers that flow quickly and are light are considered beneficial, while those that are impure, obstructed by algae, or flow slowly are considered harmful.

Generally, rivers in deserts are salty and impure. Light and mildly sweet rivers are beneficial for strength and health.

Among all earthly waters, those collected at dawn are particularly pure, and they possess a greater degree of coolness. This quality is the most distinguished among them.

दिवार्ककिरणैर्जुष्टं निशायामिन्दुरश्मिभिः | अरूक्षमनभिष्यन्दि तत्तुल्यं गगनाम्बुना ||२५||

Water that is touched by the rays of the sun during the day, and by the moonlight at night, is considered to be equally effective and comparable to water from the sky, as it does not become impure and remains free from excessive moisture.
