स स्थिरत्वान्महत्त्वाच्च धात्वनुक्रमणेन च । निहन्त्यौषधवीर्याणि मन्त्रान् दुष्टग्रहो यथा ॥१६॥

Due to its stability, significance, and adherence to the progression of tissues, an old ulcer destroys the efficacy of medicines and mantras, just like a malign influence.

Thus, one which is the opposite of the above (i.e., a curable ulcer) is considered to be easily manageable. It is like a plant with its roots not bound; it is easy to uproot.

An ulcer that is not affected by the three doshas, with a dark hue, no pain, and no discharge, is considered to be a pure (or healthy) ulcer.

An ulcer that resembles the color of a pigeon, is free from moisture, and has a firm, scab-like surface, should be classified as one that is healing.

रूढवर्त्मानमग्रन्थिमशूनमरुजं व्रणम् । त्वक्सवर्णं समतलं सम्यग्रूढं विनिर्दिशेत् ॥२०॥

An ulcer that has a well-established path, is free from any lumps or abscesses, does not cause pain, has the color of the skin, is even in surface, and is completely healed should be identified as such.
