Then, after cleansing the face of the newborn with salt butter, he should apply ghee to the head and give it a cotton swab. Then, taking the umbilical cord, stretch it eight finger-breadths and tie it with a thread, and bind one part of that thread properly around the neck of the child.

Then, while comforting the child with soothing things, after the birth rituals, he should feed the child with honey mixed with ghee and finely ground herbs using the little finger. Then, anoint the child with warm oil, bathe him in milk decoction, or with water infused with all fragrant substances, or in water heated with silver or gold. The bathing should be done with warmth according to the proper time, the doshas, and the situation.
