Now, I shall explain the general treatments for dropsy. This includes the following: One should use castor oil daily, whether mixed with urine or milk. One can also use the urine of a cow for a week without food, or one can consume milk from a she-camel. One should consume food that is devoid of water, such as pippali (long pepper) mixed with the aforementioned methods. Castor oil mixed with salt and other ingredients, as well as a decoction of the root of the fresh ginger, can also be used to treat Vāta-related pain. One can consume ripened milk of pippali mixed with other ingredients, or ghee infused with dried ginger, or one can drink a mixture of ghee with jaggery. After cooking, one can use a hundred preparations involving the roots of the milkweed and pippali over time. One should soak the powder of haritaki (chebulic myrobalan) in hot water and then strain it after a week. This decoction can be consumed, either as a meal or after half a month. One can consume clarified butter after it has been mixed with the milk of the great tree and cooked thoroughly. A mixture of castor oil, pippali, long pepper, and turmeric can be made into preparations for dropsy, and one can also use urine or spirituous liquor frequently prepared with the milk of the great tree. The bitter decoction made from shringaver and other roots can be consumed for purgation.
