रथेन वायुवेगेन प्रयान्तमनुधावती । देशान् पुनन्ती निर्दग्धानासिञ्चत्सगरात्मजान् ।। ९-९-११ ।।

sanskrit

Bhagīratha mounted a swift chariot and drove before mother Ganges, who followed him, purifying many countries, until they reached the ashes of Bhagīratha’s forefathers, the sons of Sagara, who were thus sprinkled with water from the Ganges. ।। 9-9-11 ।।

english translation

भगीरथ एक तेज रथ पर सवार हुए और गंगा माता के आगे-आगे चले जो अनेक देशों को शुद्ध करती हुई उनके पीछे पीछे चलती हुईं उस स्थान पर पहुँचीं जहाँ सगर के पुत्र भगीरथ के पितृगण की भस्म पड़ी थी। इस पर गंगा का जल छिडक़ा गया। ।। ९-९-११ ।।

यज्जलस्पर्शमात्रेण ब्रह्मदण्डहता अपि । सगरात्मजा दिवं जग्मुः केवलं देहभस्मभिः ।। ९-९-१२ ।।

sanskrit

Because the sons of Sagara Mahārāja had offended a great personality, the heat of their bodies had increased, and they were burnt to ashes. But simply by being sprinkled with water from the Ganges, all of them became eligible to go to the heavenly planets. What then is to be said of those who use the water of mother Ganges to worship her? ।। 9-9-12 ।।

english translation

चूँकि सगर महाराज के पुत्रों ने महापुरुष का अपमान किया था अतएव उनके शरीर का ताप बढ़ गया था और वे जलकर भस्म हो गये थे। किन्तु मात्र गंगाजल के छिडक़ने से वे सभी स्वर्गलोक जाने के पात्र बन गये। अतएव जो लोग गंगा की पूजा करने के लिए गंगाजल का प्रयोग करते हैं उनके विषय में क्या कहा जाए? है? ।। ९-९-१२ ।।

भस्मीभूताङ्गसङ्गेन स्वर्याताः सगरात्मजाः । किं पुनः श्रद्धया देवीं ये सेवन्ते धृतव्रताः ।। ९-९-१३ ।।

sanskrit

Simply by having water from the Ganges come in contact with the ashes of their burnt bodies, the sons of Sagara Mahārāja were elevated to the heavenly planets. Therefore, what is to be said of a devotee who worships mother Ganges faithfully with a determined vow? One can only imagine the benefit that accrues to such a devotee. ।। 9-9-13 ।।

english translation

भस्म शरीरों की राखों का गंगाजल के साथ सम्पर्क होने से सगर महाराज के पुत्र स्वर्गलोक चले गये। अतएव उन लोगों के विषय में क्या कहा जाय जो संकल्प लेकर श्रद्धापूर्वक गंगा मइया की पूजा करते हैं? ऐसे भक्तों को मिलने वाले लाभ की मात्र कल्पना की जा सकती है। ।। ९-९-१३ ।।

न ह्येतत्परमाश्चर्यं स्वर्धुन्या यदिहोदितम् । अनन्तचरणाम्भोजप्रसूताया भवच्छिदः ।। ९-९-१४ ।।

sanskrit

Because mother Ganges emanates from the lotus toe of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Anantadeva, she is able to liberate one from material bondage. Therefore whatever is described herewith about her is not at all wonderful.।। 9-9-14 ।।

english translation

चूँकि गंगामाता भगवान् अनन्तदेव के चरणकमल के अँगूठे से निकलती हैं, अतएव वे मनुष्य को भवबन्धन से मुक्त करने में सक्षम हैं। इसलिए यहाँ पर उनके विषय में जो कुछ बतलाया जा रहा है वह तनिक भी आश्चर्यजनक नहीं है। ।। ९-९-१४ ।।

सन्निवेश्य मनो यस्मिञ्छ्रद्धया मुनयोऽमलाः । त्रैगुण्यं दुस्त्यजं हित्वा सद्यो यातास्तदात्मताम् ।। ९-९-१५ ।।

sanskrit

Great sages, completely freed from material lusty desires, devote their minds fully to the service of the Lord. Such persons are liberated from material bondage without difficulty, and they become transcendentally situated, acquiring the spiritual quality of the Lord. This is the glory of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. ।। 9-9-15 ।।

english translation

मुनिगण भौतिक कामवासनाओं से सर्वथा मुक्त होकर, अपना ध्यान पूरी तरह भगवान् की सेवा में लगाते हैं। ऐसे व्यक्ति बिना किसी कठिनाई के भवबन्धन से छूट जाते हैं और वे भगवान् का आध्यात्मिक गुण प्राप्त करके दिव्यपद को प्राप्त होते हैं। भगवान् की यही महिमा है। ।। ९-९-१५ ।।

sannivezya mano yasmiJchraddhayA munayo'malAH | traiguNyaM dustyajaM hitvA sadyo yAtAstadAtmatAm || 9-9-15 ||
