स सत्त्वमेनं परितोऽपि पश्यन् स्तम्भस्य मध्यादनु निर्जिहानम् । नायं मृगो नापि नरो विचित्रमहो किमेतन्नृमृगेन्द्ररूपम् ॥ ७-८-१९ ॥

While Hiraṇyakaśipu looked all around to find the source of the sound, that wonderful form of the Lord, which could not be ascertained to be either a man or a lion, emerged from the pillar. In amazement, Hiraṇyakaśipu wondered, “What is this creature that is half man and half lion?” ॥ 7-8-19 ॥

english translation

जब हिरण्यकशिपु उस ध्वनि का स्रोत ढूँढऩे के लिए इधर-उधर देख रहा था तो उस ख भे से भगवान् का एक अद्भुत रूप प्रकट हुआ जो न तो मनुष्य का था और न सिंह का माना जाता था। हिरण्यकशिपु आश्चर्यचकित हुआ, “यह कैसा प्राणी है, जो आधा पुरुष तथा आधा सिंह है?” ॥ ७-८-१९ ॥

sa sattvamenaM parito'pi pazyan stambhasya madhyAdanu nirjihAnam । nAyaM mRgo nApi naro vicitramaho kimetannRmRgendrarUpam ॥ 7-8-19 ॥
