पुत्रान् विप्रतिकूलान् स्वान् पितरः पुत्रवत्सलाः । उपालभन्ते शिक्षार्थं नैवाघमपरो यथा ।। ७-४-४५ ।।

sanskrit

A father and mother are always affectionate to their children. When the children are disobedient the parents chastise them, not due to enmity but only for the child’s instruction and welfare. How did Hiraṇyakaśipu, the father of Prahlāda Mahārāja, chastise such a noble son? This is what I am eager to know. ।। 7-4-45 ।।

english translation

माता तथा पिता सदा ही अपने बच्चों के प्रति वत्सल होते हैं। जब बच्चे आज्ञापालक नहीं होते तो माता-पिता उन्हें किसी शत्रुतावश नहीं, अपितु उन्हें शिक्षा देने तथा उनके भले के लिए दण्ड देते हैं। तो हिरण्यकशिपु ने क्योंकर अपने इतने नेक पुत्र प्रह्लाद महाराज को प्रताडि़त किया? मैं यह जानने के लिए अत्यन्त उत्सुक हूँ। ।। ७-४-४५ ।।

putrAn vipratikUlAn svAn pitaraH putravatsalAH | upAlabhante zikSArthaM naivAghamaparo yathA || 7-4-45 ||
