हिंसा तदभिमानेन दण्डपारुष्ययोर्यथा । वैषम्यमिह भूतानां ममाहमिति पार्थिव ।। ७-१-२३ ।।

My dear King, the conditioned soul, being in the bodily conception of life, considers his body to be his self and considers everything in relationship with the body to be his. Because he has this wrong conception of life, he is subjected to dualities like praise and chastisement. ।। 7-1-23 ।।

english translation

हे राजन्, देहात्म-बुद्धि के कारण बद्धजीव अपने शरीर को ही आत्मा मान लेता है और अपने शरीर से सम्बद्ध हर वस्तु को अपनी मानता है। चूँकि उसे जीवन की यह मिथ्या धारणा रहती है, अतएव उसे प्रशंसा तथा अपमान जैसे द्वंद्वों को भोगना पड़ता है। ।। ७-१-२३ ।।
