श्रीदेवा ऊचुः वाय्वम्बराग्न्यप्क्षितयस्त्रिलोका ब्रह्मादयो ये वयमुद्विजन्तः । हराम यस्मै बलिमन्तकोऽसौ बिभेति यस्मादरणं ततो नः ।। ६-९-२१ ।।

The demigods said: The three worlds are created by the five elements — namely ether, air, fire, water and earth — which are controlled by various demigods, beginning from Lord Brahmā. Being very much afraid that the time factor will end our existence, we offer presentations unto time by performing our work as time dictates. The time factor himself, however, is afraid of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Therefore let us now worship that Supreme Lord, who alone can give us full protection. ।। 6-9-21 ।।

english translation

देवताओं ने कहा—तीनों लोकों की सृष्टि पंचतत्त्वों—क्षिति, जल, पावक, गगन तथा समीर—से हुई हैं, जिनको ब्रह्मा आदि विभिन्न देवता अपने वश में रखते हैं। हम काल से अत्यन्त भयभीत है कि वह हमारे अस्तित्त्व का अन्त कर देगा, इसलिए वह जैसा चाहता है हम वैसा कार्य करके उसको अपनी भेंट चढ़ाते हैं। किन्तु काल श्रीभगवान् से स्वयं डरता है। अत: हम उसी एकमात्र परमेश्वर की आराधना करें जो हमारी पूरी तरह से रक्षा कर सकता है। ।। ६-९-२१ ।।

Free from all material conceptions of existence and never wonder-struck by anything, the Lord is always jubilant and fully satisfied by His own spiritual perfection. He has no material designations, and therefore He is steady and unattached. That Supreme Personality of Godhead is the only shelter of everyone. Anyone desiring to be protected by others is certainly a great fool who desires to cross the sea by holding the tail of a dog. ।। 6-9-22 ।।

english translation

भगवान् समस्त सांसारिक कल्पना से रहित और सदैव विस्मयविहीन हैं, वे सदैव प्रसन्नचित्त एवं अपनी स्वरूप-सिद्धि से परम संतुष्ट रहने वाले हैं। उनकी कोई सांसारिक उपाधि नहीं होती, अत: वे स्थिर एवं विरक्त रहते हैं। वही पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम भगवान् सबों के एकमात्र आश्रय हैं। अत: जो मनुष्य किसी अन्य से अपनी रक्षा की कामना करता है, वह अवश्य ही बड़ा मूर्ख है और कुत्ते की पूँछ पकड़ कर समुद्र को पार करना चाहता है। ।। ६-९-२२ ।।

यस्योरुश‍ृङ्गे जगतीं स्वनावं मनुर्यथाऽऽबध्य ततार दुर्गम् । स एव नस्त्वाष्ट्रभयाद्दुरन्तात्त्राताऽऽश्रितान् वारिचरोऽपि नूनम् ।। ६-९-२३ ।।

The Manu named King Satyavrata formerly saved himself by tying the small boat of the entire world to the horn of the Matsya avatāra, the fish incarnation. By the grace of the Matsya avatāra, Manu saved himself from the great danger of the flood. May that same fish incarnation save us from the great and fearful danger caused by the son of Tvaṣṭā. ।। 6-9-23 ।।

पहले राजा सत्यव्रत नामक मनु ने मत्स्य अवतार के सींग में समग्र ब्रह्माण्ड रूपी छोटी नौका को बाँधकर आत्मरक्षा की थी। उनकी कृपा से मनु ने बाढ़ के महान् संकट से अपने को बचाया था। वे ही मत्स्यावतार त्वष्टा के पुत्र से उत्पन्न इस गम्भीर संकट से हमारी रक्षा करें। ।। ६-९-२३ ।।

पुरा स्वयम्भूरपि संयमाम्भस्युदीर्णवातोर्मिरवैः कराले । एकोऽरविन्दात्पतितस्ततार तस्माद्भयाद्येन स नोऽस्तु पारः ।। ६-९-२४ ।।

In the beginning of creation, a tremendous wind caused fierce waves of inundating water. The great waves made such a horrible sound that Lord Brahmā almost fell from his seat on the lotus into the water of devastation, but he was saved with the help of the Lord. Thus we also expect the Lord to protect us from this dangerous condition. ।। 6-9-24 ।।

english translation

सृष्टि के प्रारम्भ में प्रचण्ड वायु से बाढ़ के जल में भयानक लहरें उठने लगीं। इनसे ऐसा भयावना शोर हुआ कि ब्रह्माजी अपने कमल-आसन से प्रलय जल में प्राय: गिर ही पड़े, किन्तु भगवान् की सहायता से वे बच गये। उसी प्रकार हम भी भगवान् से इस भयावह स्थिति से अपनी रक्षा की आशा करते हैं। ।। ६-९-२४ ।।

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, who created us by His external potency and by whose mercy we expand the creation of the universe, is always situated before us as the Supersoul, but we cannot see His form. We are unable to see Him because all of us think that we are separate and independent gods. ।। 6-9-25 ।।

पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम भगवान् जिन्होंने अपनी बहिरंगा शक्ति से हमारी सृष्टि की और जिनकी कृपा से हम इस विश्व की सृष्टि का विस्तार करते हैं, वे निरन्तर हमारे समक्ष परमात्मा रूप में विद्यमान हैं, किन्तु हम उनके रूप को नहीं देख पाते। हम इसीलिए देखने में असमर्थ हैं, क्योंकि हम सभी अपने आपको पृथक् तथा स्वतंत्र ईश्वर के रूप में मानते हैं। ।। ६-९-२५ ।।
