ध्रुव उवाच समाधिना नैकभवेन यत्पदं विदुः सनन्दादय ऊर्ध्वरेतसः । मासैरहं षड्भिरमुष्यपादयोः छायामुपेत्यापगतः पृथङ्मतिः ।। ४-९-३० ।।

Dhruva Mahārāja thought to himself: To endeavor to be situated in the shade of the lotus feet of the Lord is not an ordinary task, because even the great brahmacārīs headed by Sanandana, who practiced aṣṭāṅga-yoga in trance, attained the shelter of the Lord’s lotus feet only after many, many births. Within six months I achieved the same result, yet due to my thinking differently from the Lord, I fell down from my position. ।। 4-9-30 ।।

english translation

ध्रुव महाराज ने मन ही मन सोचा—भगवान् के चरणकमलों की छाया में स्थित रहने का प्रयत्न करना कोई सरल कार्य नहीं है, क्योंकि सनन्दन इत्यादि जैसे महान् ब्रह्मचारियों ने भी, जिन्होंने समाधि में अष्टांग योग की साधना की, अनेक जन्मों के बाद ही भगवान् के चरणारविन्द की शरण प्राप्त की है। मैंने तो छह महीनों में ही वही फल प्राप्त कर लिया है, तो भी मैं भगवान् से भिन्न प्रकार से सोचने के कारण मैं अपने पद से नीचे गिर गया हूँ। ।। ४-९-३० ।।
