संशयोऽत्र तु मे विप्र सञ्छिन्नस्तत्कृतो महान् । ऋषयोऽपि हि मुह्यन्ति यत्र नेन्द्रियवृत्तयः ।। ४-२९-५७ ।।

My dear brāhmaṇa, there are contradictions between your instructions and those of my spiritual teachers who engaged me in fruitive activities. I now can understand the distinction between devotional service, knowledge and renunciation. I had some doubts about them, but you have now very kindly dissipated all these doubts. I can now understand how even the great sages are bewildered by the real purpose of life. Of course, there is no question of sense gratification. ।। 4-29-57 ।।

english translation

हे ब्राह्मण, आपके आदेशों तथा मुझे कर्मकाण्ड में प्रवृत्त करने वाले मेरे गुरुओं के उपदेशों में विरोधाभास जान पड़ता है। मैं अब भक्ति, ज्ञान तथा वैराग्य के अन्तर को समझ सकता हूँ। मुझे पहले इनके विषय में कुछ संशय थे, किन्तु आपने कृपा करके इन संशयों को मिटा दिया है। अब मैं समझ सकता हूँ कि बड़े बड़े ऋषि भी जीवन के वास्तविक उद्देश्य के विषय में कैसे मोहग्रस्त होते हैं। निस्सन्देह, इन्द्रियतृप्ति का कोई सवाल ही नहीं उठता। ।। ४-२९-५७ ।।
