विदुर उवाच प्रचेतसां गिरित्रेण यथाऽऽसीत्पथि सङ्गमः । यदुताह हरः प्रीतस्तन्नो ब्रह्मन् वदार्थवत् ।। ४-२४-१६ ।।
Vidura asked Maitreya: My dear brāhmaṇa, why did the Pracetās meet Lord Śiva on the way? Please tell me how the meeting happened, how Lord Śiva became very pleased with them and how he instructed them. Certainly such talks are important, and I wish that you please be merciful upon me and describe them. ।। 4-24-16 ।।

विदुर ने मैत्रेय से पूछा: हे ब्राह्मण, प्रचेतागण रास्ते में शिवजी से क्यों मिले? कृपया मुझे बताएँ कि उनसे किस प्रकार भेंट हुई, भगवान् शिव उनसे किस प्रकार इतने प्रसन्न हो गये और उन्होंने क्या उपदेश दिया? निस्सन्देह, ऐसी बातें महत्वपूर्ण हैं और मैं चाहता हूँ कि आप कृपा करके मुझसे इनका वर्णन करें। ।। ४-२४-१६ ।।

hk transliteration by Sanscriptसङ्गमः खलु विप्रर्षे शिवेनेह शरीरिणाम् । दुर्लभो मुनयो दध्युरसङ्गाद्यमभीप्सितम् ।। ४-२४-१७ ।।
The great sage Vidura continued: O best of the brāhmaṇas, it is very difficult for living entities encaged within this material body to have personal contact with Lord Śiva. Even great sages who have no material attachments do not contact him, despite their always being absorbed in meditation to attain his personal contact. ।। 4-24-17 ।।
english translation
विदुर ने आगे कहा : हे ब्राह्मणश्रेष्ठ, देहधारियों के लिए शिवजी के साथ साक्षात् सम्पर्क कर पाना अत्यन्त कठिन है। बड़े-बड़े ऋषि भी जिन्हें भौतिक आसक्ति से कोई लेनदेन नहीं होता, उनका समागम पाने के लिए ही, ध्यान में लीन रहने के बावजूद भी उनका संसर्ग प्राप्त नहीं कर पाते। ।। ४-२४-१७ ।।

hk transliteration by Sanscriptआत्मारामोऽपि यस्त्वस्य लोककल्पस्य राधसे । शक्त्या युक्तो विचरति घोरया भगवान् भवः ।। ४-२४-१८ ।।
Lord Śiva, the most powerful demigod, second only to Lord Viṣṇu, is self-sufficient. Although he has nothing to aspire for in the material world, for the benefit of those in the material world he is always busily engaged everywhere and is accompanied by his dangerous energies like the goddess Kālī and the goddess Durgā. ।। 4-24-18 ।।

शिवजी जो अत्यन्त शक्तिशाली देवता हैं और वे आत्माराम हैं, जिनका नाम भगवान् विष्णु के ही बाद आता है। यद्यपि उन्हें इस भौतिक जगत में किसी वस्तु की कोई आकांक्षा नहीं है, किन्तु वे संसारी लोगों के कल्याण कार्य में सदैव व्यस्त रहते हैं और अपनी घोर शक्तियों—यथा देवी काली तथा देवी दुर्गा—के साथ रहते हैं। ।। ४-२४-१८ ।।

AtmArAmo'pi yastvasya lokakalpasya rAdhase | zaktyA yukto vicarati ghorayA bhagavAn bhavaH || 4-24-18 ||
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमैत्रेय उवाच प्रचेतसः पितुर्वाक्यं शिरसाऽऽदाय साधवः । दिशं प्रतीचीं प्रययुस्तपस्यादृतचेतसः ।। ४-२४-१९ ।।
The great sage Maitreya continued: My dear Vidura, because of their pious nature, all the sons of Prācīnabarhi very seriously accepted the words of their father with heart and soul, and with these words on their heads, they went toward the west to execute their father’s order. ।। 4-24-19 ।।
english translation
ऋषि मैत्रेय ने आगे कहा : हे विदुर, अपनी साधु प्रकृति के कारण प्राचीनबर्हि के सभी पुत्रों ने अपने पिता के वचनों को शिरोधार्य किया और पिता की आज्ञा पूरी करने के उद्देश्य से वे पश्चिम दिशा की ओर चले गये। ।। ४-२४-१९ ।।

hk transliteration by Sanscriptसमुद्रमुप विस्तीर्णमपश्यन् सुमहत्सरः । महन्मन इव स्वच्छं प्रसन्नसलिलाशयम् ।। ४-२४-२० ।।
While traveling, the Pracetās happened to see a great reservoir of water which seemed almost as big as the ocean. The water of this lake was so calm and quiet that it seemed like the mind of a great soul, and its inhabitants, the aquatics, appeared very peaceful and happy to be under the protection of such a watery reservoir. ।। 4-24-20 ।।
english translation
चलते-चलते प्रचेताओं ने एक विशाल जलाशय देखा जो समुद्र के समान ही विशाल दिखता था। इसका जल इतना शान्त था मानो किसी महापुरुष का मन हो और इसके जलचर इतने बड़े जलाशय की संरक्षण में होकर अत्यन्त शान्त तथा प्रसन्न प्रतीत हो रहे थे। ।। ४-२४-२० ।।
