मैत्रेय उवाच इत्थं विपर्ययमतिः पापीयानुत्पथं गतः । अनुनीयमानस्तद्याच्ञां न चक्रे भ्रष्टमङ्गलः ।। ४-१४-२९ ।।

sanskrit

The great sage Maitreya continued: Thus the King, who became unintelligent due to his sinful life and deviation from the right path, became actually bereft of all good fortune. He could not accept the requests of the great sages, which the sages put before him with great respect, and therefore he was condemned. ।। 4-14-29 ।।

english translation

महर्षि मैत्रेय ने आगे कहा : इस प्रकार अपने पापमय जीवन के कारण दुर्बोध होने तथा सही राह से विचलित होने के कारण राजा समस्त पुण्य से क्षीण हो गया। उसने ऋषियों की सादर प्रस्तुत प्रार्थनाएँ स्वीकार नहीं कीं, अत: उसकी भर्त्सना की गई। ।। ४-१४-२९ ।।
