तान् हन्यमानानभिवीक्ष्य गुह्यकाननागसश्चित्ररथेन भूरिशः । औत्तानपादिं कृपया पितामहो मनुर्जगादोपगतः सहर्षिभिः ॥ ४-११-६ ॥

When Svāyambhuva Manu saw that his grandson Dhruva Mahārāja was killing so many of the Yakṣas who were not actually offenders, out of his great compassion he approached Dhruva with great sages to give him good instruction. ॥ 4-11-6 ॥

english translation

जब स्वायंभुव मनु ने देखा कि उनका पौत्र ध्रुव ऐसे अनेक यक्षों का वध कर रहा है, जो वास्तव में अपराधी नहीं हैं, तो वे करुणावश ऋषियों को साथ लेकर ध्रुव के पास उन्हें सदुपदेश देने गये । ॥ ४-११-६ ॥

मनुरुवाच अलं वत्सातिरोषेण तमोद्वारेण पाप्मना । येन पुण्यजनानेतानवधीस्त्वमनागसः ॥ ४-११-७ ॥

Lord Manu said: My dear son, please stop. It is not good to become unnecessarily angry — it is the path to hellish life. Now you are going beyond the limit by killing Yakṣas who are actually not offenders. ॥ 4-11-7 ॥

english translation

श्री मनु ने कहा : हे पुत्र, बस करो। वृथा क्रोध करना अच्छा नहीं—यह तो नारकीय जीवन का मार्ग है। अब तुम यक्षों को मार कर अपनी सीमा से परे जा रहे हो, क्योंकि ये वास्तव में अपराधी नहीं हैं। ॥ ४-११-७ ॥

नास्मत्कुलोचितं तात कर्मैतत्सद्विगर्हितम् । वधो यदुपदेवानामारब्धस्तेऽकृतैनसाम् ॥ ४-११-८ ॥

My dear son, the killing of the sinless Yakṣas which you have undertaken is not at all approved by authorities, and it does not befit our family, which is supposed to know the laws of religion and irreligion. ॥ 4-11-8 ॥

english translation

हे पुत्र, तुम निर्दोष यक्षों का जो यह वध कर रहे हो वह न तो अधिकृत पुरुषों द्वारा स्वीकार्य है और न यह हमारे कुल को शोभा देनेवाला है क्योंकि तुमसे आशा की जाती है कि तुम धर्म तथा अधर्म के विधानों को जानो। ॥ ४-११-८ ॥

नन्वेकस्यापराधेन प्रसङ्गाद्बहवो हताः । भ्रातुर्वधाभितप्तेन त्वयाङ्ग भ्रातृवत्सल ॥ ४-११-९ ॥

My dear son, it has been proved that you are very much affectionate towards your brother and are greatly aggrieved at his being killed by the Yakṣas, but just consider: for one Yakṣa’s offense, you have killed many others, who are innocent. ॥ 4-11-9 ॥

english translation

हे पुत्र, यह सिद्ध हो चुका है कि तुम अपने भाई के प्रति कितने वत्सल हो और यक्षों द्वारा उसके मारे जाने से तुम कितने सन्तप्त हो, किन्तु जरा सोचो तो कि केवल एक यक्ष के अपराध के कारण तुमने कितने अन्य निर्दोष यक्षों का वध कर दिया है। ॥ ४-११-९ ॥

नायं मार्गो हि साधूनां हृषीकेशानुवर्तिनाम् । यदात्मानं पराग्गृह्य पशुवद्भूतवैशसम् ॥ ४-११-१० ॥

One should not accept the body as the self and thus, like the animals, kill the bodies of others. This is especially forbidden by saintly persons, who follow the path of devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. ॥ 4-11-10 ॥

english translation

मनुष्य को चाहिए कि वह शरीर को आत्मा न माने और इस प्रकार पशुओं की भाँति अन्यों का वध न करे। भगवान् की भक्ति के पथ का अनुसरण करनेवाले साधु पुरुषों ने इसे विशेष रूप से वर्जित किया है। ॥ ४-११-१० ॥
