अथात्रापीतिहासोऽयं श्रुतो मे वर्णितः पुरा । ब्रह्मणा देवदेवेन देवानामनुपृच्छताम् ॥ ३-१४-६ ॥
This history of the fight between the Lord as a boar and the demon Hiraṇyākṣa was heard by me in a year long ago as it was described by the foremost of the demigods, Brahmā, when he was questioned by the other demigods. ॥ 3-14-6 ॥

वराह रूप भगवान् तथा हिरण्याक्ष असुर के मध्य युद्ध का यह इतिहास मैंने बहुत वर्षों पूर्व तब सुना था जब यह देवताओं के अग्रणी ब्रह्मा द्वारा अन्य देवताओं के पूछे जाने पर वर्णन किया गया था। ॥ ३-१४-६ ॥
