अध्यापयत्संहितां स्वां माण्डूकेयमृषिं कविम् । तस्य शिष्यो देवमित्रः सौभर्यादिभ्य ऊचिवान् ।। १२-६-५६ ।।

sanskrit

Taught his saṁhitā to the learned mystic Māṇḍūkeya, whose disciple Devamitra later passed down the divisions of the Ṛg Veda to Saubhari and others. ।। 12-6-56 ।।

english translation

उन्होंने अपनी संहिता विद्वान रहस्यवादी माण्डुकेय को सिखाई, जिनके शिष्य देवमित्र ने बाद में ऋग्वेद के प्रभागों को सौभारी और अन्य लोगों को सौंप दिया। ।। १२-६-५६ ।।

शाकल्यस्तत्सुतः स्वां तु पञ्चधा व्यस्य संहिताम् । वात्स्यमुद्गलशालीयगोखल्यशिशिरेष्वधात् ।। १२-६-५७ ।।

sanskrit

The son of Māṇḍūkeya, named Śākalya, divided his own collection into five, entrusting one subdivision each to Vātsya, Mudgala, Śālīya, Gokhalya and Śiśira. ।। 12-6-57 ।।

english translation

माण्डुकेय के शाकल्य नामक पुत्र ने अपने संग्रह को पांच भागों में विभाजित किया और वात्स्य, मुद्गल, शालिय, गोखल्य और शिशिरा को एक-एक उपखंड सौंपा। ।। १२-६-५७ ।।

जातूकर्ण्यश्च तच्छिष्यः सनिरुक्तां स्वसंहिताम् । बलाकपैलवैतालविरजेभ्यो ददौ मुनिः ।। १२-६-५८ ।।

sanskrit

The sage Jātūkarṇya was also a disciple of Śākalya, and after dividing the saṁhitā he received from Śākalya into three parts, he added a fourth section, a Vedic glossary. He taught one of these parts to each of four disciples — Balāka, the second Paila, Jābāla and Viraja. ।। 12-6-58 ।।

english translation

ऋषि जातुकर्ण्य भी शाकल्य के शिष्य थे, और उन्होंने शाकल्य से प्राप्त संहिता को तीन भागों में विभाजित करने के बाद, एक चौथा खंड, एक वैदिक शब्दावली, जोड़ा। उन्होंने चार शिष्यों में से प्रत्येक को इनमें से एक भाग सिखाया - बालक, दूसरा पैला, जाबाला और विराज। ।। १२-६-५८ ।।

बाष्कलिः प्रतिशाखाभ्यो वालखिल्याख्यसंहिताम् । चक्रे वालायनिर्भज्यः कासारश्चैव तां दधुः ।। १२-६-५९ ।।

Bāṣkali assembled the Vālakhilya-saṁhitā, a collection from all the branches of the Ṛg Veda. This collection was received by Vālāyani, Bhajya and Kāśāra. ।। 12-6-59 ।।

english translation

बाष्कली ने ऋग्वेद की सभी शाखाओं से एक संग्रह, वलाखिल्य-संहिता को इकट्ठा किया। यह संग्रह वलयानी, भज्या और काशर को प्राप्त हुआ। ।। १२-६-५९ ।।

बह्वृचाः संहिता ह्येता एभिर्ब्रह्मर्षिभिर्धृताः । श्रुत्वैतच्छन्दसां व्यासं सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते ।। १२-६-६० ।।

sanskrit

Thus these various saṁhitās of the Ṛg Veda were maintained through disciplic succession by these saintly brāhmaṇas. Simply by hearing of this distribution of the Vedic hymns, one will be freed from all sins. ।। 12-6-60 ।।

english translation

इस प्रकार ऋग्वेद की इन विभिन्न संहिताओं को इन संत ब्राह्मणों द्वारा शिष्य उत्तराधिकार के माध्यम से बनाए रखा गया था। वैदिक ऋचाओं के इस वितरण को सुनने मात्र से मनुष्य सभी पापों से मुक्त हो जायेगा। ।। १२-६-६० ।।
