यदा धर्मार्थकामेषु भक्तिर्भवति देहिनाम् । तदा त्रेता रजो वृत्तिरिति जानीहि बुद्धिमन् ।। १२-३-२८ ।।

O most intelligent one, when the conditioned souls are devoted to their duties but have ulterior motives and seek personal prestige, you should understand such a situation to be the age of Tretā, in which the functions of passion are prominent. ।। 12-3-28 ।।

english translation

हे परम बुद्धिमान, जब बद्ध आत्माएं अपने कर्तव्यों के प्रति समर्पित होती हैं, लेकिन उनके गुप्त उद्देश्य होते हैं और वे व्यक्तिगत प्रतिष्ठा चाहते हैं, तो आपको ऐसी स्थिति को त्रेता का युग समझना चाहिए, जिसमें जुनून के कार्य प्रमुख हैं। ।। १२-३-२८ ।।
