तामाहुस्त्रिगुणव्यक्तिं सृजन्तीं विश्वतोमुखम् । यस्मिन् प्रोतमिदं विश्वं येन संसरते पुमान् ।। ११-९-२० ।।

According to great sages, that which is the basis of the three modes of material nature and which manifests the variegated universe is called the sūtra or mahat-tattva. Indeed, this universe is resting within that mahat-tattva, and due to its potency the living entity undergoes material existence. ।। 11-9-20 ।।

english translation

महान ऋषियों के अनुसार, जो भौतिक प्रकृति के तीन गुणों का आधार है और जो विविध ब्रह्मांड को प्रकट करता है, उसे सूत्र या महत-तत्व कहा जाता है। वास्तव में, यह ब्रह्मांड उस महत्-तत्व के भीतर विश्राम कर रहा है, और उसकी शक्ति के कारण जीव भौतिक अस्तित्व से गुजरता है। ।। ११-९-२० ।।
