पित्रोः किं स्वं नु भार्यायाः स्वामिनोऽग्नेः श्वगृध्रयोः । किमात्मनः किं सुहृदामिति यो नावसीयते ।। ११-२६-१९ ।।

One can never decide whose property the body actually is. Does it belong to one’s parents, who have given birth to it, to one’s wife, who gives it pleasure, or to one’s employer, who orders the body around? Is it the property of the funeral fire or of the dogs and jackals who may ultimately devour it? Is it the property of the indwelling soul, who partakes in its happiness and distress, or does the body belong to intimate friends who encourage and help it? ।। 11-26-19 ।।

english translation

कोई यह कभी तय नहीं कर सकता कि शरीर वास्तव में किसकी संपत्ति है। क्या यह किसी के माता-पिता का है, जिन्होंने इसे जन्म दिया है, किसी की पत्नी का है, जो इसे आनंद देती है, या किसी के नियोक्ता का है, जो शरीर को इधर-उधर रखने का आदेश देता है? क्या यह अंतिम संस्कार की आग की संपत्ति है या कुत्तों और सियारों की जो अंततः इसे खा सकते हैं? क्या यह वास करने वाली आत्मा की संपत्ति है, जो उसके सुख और दुख में भाग लेती है, या शरीर उन घनिष्ठ मित्रों का है जो उसे प्रोत्साहित करते हैं और उसकी सहायता करते हैं? ।। ११-२६-१९ ।।
