प्रकृतिर्गुणसाम्यं वै प्रकृतेर्नात्मनो गुणाः । सत्त्वं रजस्तम इति स्थित्युत्पत्त्यन्तहेतवः ॥ ११-२२-१२ ॥

Nature exists originally as the equilibrium of the three material modes, which pertain only to nature, not to the transcendental spirit soul. These modes — goodness, passion and ignorance — are the effective causes of the creation, maintenance and destruction of this universe. ॥ 11-22-12 ॥

english translation

प्रकृति मूल रूप से तीन भौतिक गुणों के संतुलन के रूप में मौजूद है, जो केवल प्रकृति से संबंधित है, पारलौकिक आत्मा से नहीं। ये गुण - अच्छाई, जुनून और अज्ञान - इस ब्रह्मांड के निर्माण, रखरखाव और विनाश के प्रभावी कारण हैं। ॥ ११-२२-१२ ॥
