उद्धव उवाच कति तत्त्वानि विश्वेश सङ्ख्यातान्यृषिभिः प्रभो । नवैकादश पञ्च त्रीण्यात्थ त्वमिह शुश्रुम ।। ११-२२-१ ।।

Uddhava inquired: My dear Lord, O master of the universe, how many different elements of creation have been enumerated by the great sages? I have heard You personally describe a total of twenty-eight — God, the jīva soul, the mahat-tattva, false ego, the five gross elements, the ten senses, the mind, the five subtle objects of perception and the three modes of nature. ।। 11-22-1 ।।

english translation

उद्धव ने पूछा: मेरे प्रिय भगवान, हे ब्रह्मांड के स्वामी, महान ऋषियों ने सृष्टि के कितने अलग-अलग तत्वों की गणना की है? मैंने व्यक्तिगत रूप से आपको कुल अट्ठाईस का वर्णन करते हुए सुना है - ईश्वर, जीवात्मा, महत्-तत्त्व, मिथ्या अहंकार, पाँच स्थूल तत्व, दस इंद्रियाँ, मन, धारणा की पाँच सूक्ष्म वस्तुएँ और तीन विधियाँ। प्रकृति। ।। ११-२२-१ ।।
