तद्वाग्विसर्गो जनताघविप्लवो यस्मिन् प्रतिश्लोकमबद्धवत्यपि । नामान्यनन्तस्य यशोऽङ्कितानि यच्छृण्वन्ति गायन्ति गृणन्ति साधवः ॥ १-५-११ ॥
On the other hand, that literature which is full of descriptions of the transcendental glories of the name, fame, forms, pastimes, etc., of the unlimited Supreme Lord is a different creation, full of transcendental words directed toward bringing about a revolution in the impious lives of this world’s misdirected civilization. Such transcendental literatures, even though imperfectly composed, are heard, sung and accepted by purified men who are thoroughly honest. ॥ 1-5-11 ॥

दूसरी ओर, जो साहित्य असीम परमेश्वर के नाम, यश, रूपों तथा लीलाओं की दिव्य महिमा के वर्णन से पूर्ण है, वह कुछ भिन्न ही रचना है जो इस जगत की गुमराह सभ्यता के अपवित्र जीवन में क्रान्ति लाने वाले दिव्य शब्दों से ओतप्रोत है। ऐसा दिव्य साहित्य, चाहे वह ठीक से न भी रचा हुआ हो, ऐसे पवित्र मनुष्यों द्वारा सुना, गाया तथा स्वीकार किया जाता है, जो नितान्त निष्कपट होते हैं। ॥ १-५-११ ॥

नैष्कर्म्यमप्यच्युतभाववर्जितंनशोभते ज्ञानमलं निरञ्जनम् । कुतः पुनः शश्वदभद्रमीश्वरेनचार्पितं कर्म यदप्यकारणम् ॥ १-५-१२ ॥
Knowledge of self-realization, even though free from all material affinity, does not look well if devoid of a conception of the Infallible [God]. What, then, is the use of fruitive activities, which are naturally painful from the very beginning and transient by nature, if they are not utilized for the devotional service of the Lord? ॥ 1-5-12 ॥

आत्म-साक्षात्कार का ज्ञान समस्त भौतिक आसक्ति से रहित होने पर भी शोभा नहीं देता यदि वह अच्युत (ईश्वर) के भाव से शून्य हो। तो फिर उन सकाम कर्मों से क्या लाभ है, यदि वे भगवान् की भक्ति के लिए काम न आ सकें और जो स्वभावत: प्रारम्भ से ही दुखप्रद तथा क्षणिक होते है? ॥ १-५-१२ ॥

अथो महाभाग भवानमोघदृक्शुचिश्रवाःसत्यरतो धृतव्रतः । उरुक्रमस्याखिलबन्धमुक्तये समाधिनानुस्मर तद्विचेष्टितम् ॥ १-५-१३ ॥
O Vyāsadeva, your vision is completely perfect. Your good fame is spotless. You are firm in vow and situated in truthfulness. And thus you can think of the pastimes of the Lord in trance for the liberation of the people in general from all material bondage. ॥ 1-5-13 ॥

हे व्यासदेव, तुम्हारी दृष्टि सभी तरह से पूर्ण है। तुम्हारी उत्तम ख्याति निष्कलुष है। तुम अपने व्रत में दृढ़ हो और सत्य में स्थित हो। अतएव तुम समस्त लोगों को भौतिक बन्धन से मुक्ति दिलाने के लिए भगवान् की लीलाओं के विषय में समाधि के द्वारा चिन्तन कर सकते हो। ॥ १-५-१३ ॥

ततोऽन्यथा किञ्चन यद्विवक्षतः पृथग्दृशस्तत्कृतरूपनामभिः । नकुत्रचित्क्वापिचदुःस्थिता मतिर्लभेत वाताहतनौरिवास्पदम् ॥ १-५-१४ ॥
Whatever you desire to describe that is separate in vision from the Lord simply reacts, with different forms, names and results, to agitate the mind, as the wind agitates a boat which has no resting place. ॥ 1-5-14 ॥

तुम भगवान् के अतिरिक्त विभिन्न रूपों, नामों तथा परिणामों के रूप में जो कुछ भी वर्णन करना चाहते हो, वह प्रतिक्रिया द्वारा मन को उसी प्रकार आंदोलित करने वाला है, जिस प्रकार आश्रय विहीन नाव को चक्रवात आंदोलित करता है। ॥ १-५-१४ ॥

जुगुप्सितं धर्मकृतेऽनुशासतः स्वभावरक्तस्य महान् व्यतिक्रमः । यद्वाक्यतो धर्म इतीतरः स्थितोनमन्यतेतस्य निवारणंजनः ॥ १-५-१५ ॥
The people in general are naturally inclined to enjoy, and you have encouraged them in that way in the name of religion. This is verily condemned and is quite unreasonable. Because they are guided under your instructions, they will accept such activities in the name of religion and will hardly care for prohibitions. ॥ 1-5-15 ॥

सामान्य लोगों में भोग करने की स्वाभाविक प्रवृत्ति होती है और तुमने धर्म के नाम पर उन्हें वैसा करते रहने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया है। यह अत्यन्त घृणित तथा अत्यन्त अनुचित है। चूँकि वे लोग तुम्हारे उपदेशों के अनुसार मार्गदर्शन प्राप्त करते हैं, अत: वे ऐसे कार्यों को धर्म के नाम पर ग्रहण करेंगे और निषेधों की भी परवाह नहीं करेंगे। ॥ १-५-१५ ॥
