अवतारा ह्यसङ्ख्येया हरेः सत्त्वनिधेर्द्विजाः । यथाविदासिनः कुल्याः सरसः स्युः सहस्रशः ।। १-३-२६ ।।

sanskrit

O brāhmaṇas, the incarnations of the Lord are innumerable, like rivulets flowing from inexhaustible sources of water. ।। 1-3-26 ।।

english translation

हे ब्राह्मणों, भगवान् के अवतार उसी तरह असंख्य हैं, जिस प्रकार अक्षय जल के स्रोत से निकलने वाले (असंख्य) झरने। ।। १-३-२६ ।।

avatArA hyasaGkhyeyA hareH sattvanidherdvijAH | yathAvidAsinaH kulyAH sarasaH syuH sahasrazaH || 1-3-26 ||

ऋषयोमनवोदेवामनुपुत्रा महौजसः । कलाः सर्वेहरेरेव सप्रजापतयस्तथा ।। १-३-२७ ।।

sanskrit

All the ṛṣis, Manus, demigods and descendants of Manu, who are especially powerful, are plenary portions or portions of the plenary portions of the Lord. This also includes the Prajāpatis. ।। 1-3-27 ।।

english translation

सारे ऋषि, मनु, देवता तथा विशेष रूप से शक्तिशाली मनु की सन्तानें भगवान् के अंश या उन अंशों की कलाएँ हैं। इसमें प्रजापतिगण भी सम्मिलित हैं। ।। १-३-२७ ।।

hindi translation

RSayomanavodevAmanuputrA mahaujasaH | kalAH sarveharereva saprajApatayastathA || 1-3-27 ||

एते चांशकलाः पुंसः कृष्णस्तु भगवान् स्वयम् । इन्द्रारिव्याकुलं लोकं मृडयन्ति युगे युगे ।। १-३-२८ ।।

sanskrit

All of the above-mentioned incarnations are either plenary portions or portions of the plenary portions of the Lord, but Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa is the original Personality of Godhead. All of them appear on planets whenever there is a disturbance created by the atheists. The Lord incarnates to protect the theists. ।। 1-3-28 ।।

english translation

उपर्युक्त सारे अवतार या तो भगवान् के पूर्ण अंश या पूर्णांश के अंश (कलाएं) हैं, लेकिन श्रीकृष्ण तो आदि पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम भगवान् हैं। वे सब विभिन्न लोकों में नास्तिकों द्वारा उपद्रव किये जाने पर प्रकट होते हैं। भगवान् आस्तिकों की रक्षा करने के लिए अवतरित होते हैं। ।। १-३-२८ ।।

जन्मगुह्यं भगवतोय एतत्प्रयतोनरः । सायं प्रातर्गृणन्भक्त्या दुःखग्रामाद्विमुच्यते ।। १-३-२९ ।।

sanskrit

Whoever carefully recites the mysterious appearances of the Lord, with devotion in the morning and in the evening, gets relief from all miseries of life. ।। 1-3-29 ।।

english translation

जो कोई भी भगवान् के गुह्य अवतारों का सावधानीपूर्वक प्रतिदिन सुबह तथा शाम को पाठ करता है, वह जीवन के समस्त दुखों से छूट जाता है। ।। १-३-२९ ।।

janmaguhyaM bhagavatoya etatprayatonaraH | sAyaM prAtargRNanbhaktyA duHkhagrAmAdvimucyate || 1-3-29 ||

एतद्रूपं भगवतो ह्यरूपस्य चिदात्मनः । मायागुणैर्विरचितं महदादिभिरात्मनि ।। १-३-३० ।।

sanskrit

The conception of the virāṭ universal form of the Lord, as appearing in the material world, is imaginary. It is to enable the less intelligent [and neophytes] to adjust to the idea of the Lord’s having form. But factually the Lord has no material form. । 1-3-30 ।।

english translation

भगवान् के विराट रूप की धारणा, जिसमें वे इस भौतिक जगत में प्रकट होते हैं, काल्पनिक है। यह तो अल्पज्ञों (तथा नवदीक्षितों) को भगवान् के रूप की धारणा में प्रवेश कराने के लिए है। लेकिन वस्तुत: भगवान् का कोई भौतिक रूप नहीं होता। ।। १-३-३० ।।
