ततः सप्तदशे जातः सत्यवत्यां पराशरात् । चक्रे वेदतरोः शाखा दृष्ट्वा पुंसोऽल्पमेधसः ।। १-३-२१ ।।

sanskrit

Thereafter, in the seventeenth incarnation of Godhead, Śrī Vyāsadeva appeared in the womb of Satyavatī through Parāśara Muni, and he divided the one Veda into several branches and subbranches, seeing that the people in general were less intelligent. ।। 1-3-21 ।।

english translation

तत्पश्चात् सत्रहवें अवतार में भगवान्, पराशर मुनि के माध्यम से सत्यवती के गर्भ से श्री व्यासदेव के रूप में प्रकट हुए। उन्होंने यह देखकर कि जन-सामान्य अल्पज्ञ हैं, एकमेव वेद को अनेक शाखाओं-प्रशाखाओं में विभक्त कर दिया। ।। १-३-२१ ।।

नरदेवत्वमापन्नः सुरकार्यचिकीर्षया । समुद्रनिग्रहादीनि चक्रे वीर्याण्यतः परम् ।। १-३-२२ ।।

sanskrit

In the eighteenth incarnation, the Lord appeared as King Rāma. In order to perform some pleasing work for the demigods, He exhibited superhuman powers by controlling the Indian Ocean and then killing the atheist King Rāvaṇa, who was on the other side of the sea. ।। 1-3-22 ।।

english translation

अठारहवें अवतार में भगवान् राजा राम के रूप में प्रकट हुए। उन्होंने देवताओं के लिए मनभावन कार्य करने के उद्देश्य से हिन्द महासागर को वश में करते हुए समुद्र पार के निवासी नास्तिक राजा रावण का वध करके अपनी अतिमानवीय शक्ति का प्रदर्शन किया। ।। १-३-२२ ।।

एकोनविंशे विंशतिमे वृष्णिषु प्राप्य जन्मनी । रामकृष्णाविति भुवो भगवानहरद्भरम् ।। १-३-२३ ।।

sanskrit

In the nineteenth and twentieth incarnations, the Lord advented Himself as Lord Balarāma and Lord Kṛṣṇa in the family of Vṛṣṇi [the Yadu dynasty], and by so doing He removed the burden of the world. ।। 1-3-23 ।।

english translation

उन्नीसवें तथा बीसवें अवतारों में भगवान् वृष्णि वंश में (यदु कुल में) भगवान् बलराम तथा भगवान् कृष्ण के रूप में अवतरित हुए और इस तरह उन्होंने संसार के भार को दूर किया। ।। १-३-२३ ।।

ततःकलौसम्प्रवृत्ते सम्मोहायसुरद्विषाम् । बुद्धोनाम्नाजनसुतः कीकटेषुभविष्यति ।। १-३-२४ ।।

sanskrit

Then, in the beginning of Kali-yuga, the Lord will appear as Lord Buddha, the son of Añjanā, in the province of Gayā, just for the purpose of deluding those who are envious of the faithful theist. ।। 1-3-24 ।।

english translation

तब भगवान् कलियुग के प्रारम्भ में गया प्रान्त में अंजना के पुत्र, बुद्ध के रूप में उन लोगों को मोहित करने के लिए प्रकट होंगे, जो श्रद्धालु आस्तिकों से ईर्ष्या करते हैं। ।। १-३-२४ ।।

अथासौ युगसन्ध्यायां दस्युप्रायेषु राजसु । जनिता विष्णुयशसो नाम्ना कल्किर्जगत्पतिः ।। १-३-२५ ।।

sanskrit

Thereafter, at the conjunction of two yugas, the Lord of the creation will take His birth as the Kalki incarnation and become the son of Viṣṇu Yaśā. At this time almost all the rulers of the earth will have degenerated into plunderers. ।। 1-3-25 ।।

english translation

तत्पश्चात् सृष्टि के सर्वोसर्वा भगवान् दो युगों के सन्धिकाल में कल्कि अवतार के रूप में जन्म लेंगे और विष्णु यशा के पुत्र होंगे। उस समय पृथ्वी के शासक लुटेरे बन चुके होंगे। ।। १-३-२५ ।।
