स वै किलायं पुरुषः पुरातनो य एक आसीदविशेष आत्मनि । अग्रे गुणेभ्यो जगदात्मनीश्वरे निमीलितात्मन् निशि सुप्तशक्तिषु ।। १-१०-२१ ।।

sanskrit

They said: Here He is, the original Personality of Godhead as we definitely remember Him. He alone existed before the manifested creation of the modes of nature, and in Him only, because He is the Supreme Lord, all living beings merge, as if sleeping at night, their energy suspended. ।। 1-10-21 ।।

english translation

वे कहने लगीं : जैसा हमें निश्चित रूप से स्मरण है, यही हैं वे, जो आदि परमेश्वर हैं। प्रकृति के गुणों की व्यक्त सृष्टि के पूर्व, वे ही अकेले विद्यमान थे। चूँकि वे परमेश्वर हैं, अतएव सारे जीव उन्हीं में लीन होते हैं, मानो रात्रि में सोये हुए हों और उनकी शक्ति रुक गई हो। ।। १-१०-२१ ।।

The Personality of Godhead, again desiring to give names and forms to His parts and parcels, the living entities, placed them under the guidance of material nature. By His own potency, material nature is empowered to re-create. ।। 1-10-22 ।।

english translation

तब भगवान् ने अपने अंशस्वरूप जीवों को, नाम तथा रूप प्रदान करने की इच्छा से, उन्हें भौतिक प्रकृति के मार्गदर्शन के अन्तर्गत कर दिया। उनकी ही अपनी शक्ति से भौतिक प्रकृति को पुन: सृष्टि करने के लिए अधिकृत कर दिया गया है। ।। १-१०-२२ ।।

Here is the same Supreme Personality of Godhead whose transcendental form is experienced by the great devotees who are completely cleansed of material consciousness by dint of rigid devotional service and full control of life and the senses. And that is the only way to purify existence. ।। 1-10-23 ।।

english translation

ये वे ही पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम भगवान् हैं, जिनके दिव्य रूप का अनुभव बड़े-बड़े भक्तों द्वारा किया जाता है, जिन्होंने सुदृढ़ भक्ति द्वारा तथा जीवन एवं इन्द्रियों पर पूर्ण संयम द्वारा, भौतिक चेतना से पूर्ण रूप से विशुद्ध हो चुके हैं। तथा अस्तित्व को विमल बनाने का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। ।। १-१०-२३ ।।

O dear friends, here is that very Personality of Godhead whose attractive and confidential pastimes are described in the confidential parts of Vedic literature by His great devotees. It is He only who creates, maintains and annihilates the material world and yet remains unaffected. ।। 1-10-24 ।।

english translation

हे सखियो, यहाँ पर वही भगवान् हैं, जिनकी आकर्षक तथा गोपनीय लीलाओं का वर्णन बड़े-बड़े भक्तों द्वारा वैदिक साहित्य के गुह्यतम अंशों में हुआ है। वे ही भौतिक जगत की सृष्टि करने वाले, पालने वाले तथा संहार करनेवाले हैं, फिर भी वे उससे अप्रभावित रहते हैं। ।। १-१०-२४ ।।

Whenever there are kings and administrators living like animals in the lowest modes of existence, the Lord in His transcendental form manifests His supreme power, the Truth Positive, shows special mercy to the faithful, performs wonderful activities and manifests various transcendental forms as is necessary in different periods and ages. ।। 1-10-25 ।।

english translation

जब भी राजा तथा प्रशासक, तमोगुण में स्थित पशुओं की तरह रहते हैं, तो भगवान् अपने दिव्य रूप में अपनी परम शक्ति, सत्य ऋत, को प्रकट करते हैं, श्रद्धालुओं पर विशेष दया दिखाते हैं, अद्भुत कार्य करते हैं तथा विभिन्न कालों तथा युगों में आवश्यकतानुसार विभिन्न दिव्य रूप प्रकट करते हैं। ।। १-१०-२५ ।।
