पुरा किल सती नाम्ना दक्षस्य दुहिता ऽभवम् ॥ जगतां पतिमेवं त्वां पतिं प्राप्तवती तथा ॥ ५६ ॥

In the past, I was the daughter of King Dakṣa, whose name was Satī. Thus she found you the husband of the worlds.

एवमद्यापि तपसा तोषयित्वा द्विजं विधिम् ॥ गौरी भवितुमिच्छामि को दोषः कथ्यतामिह ॥ ५७ ॥

So now also by propitiating him by penance I wish to become Gaurī. What is the harm therein?

evamadyApi tapasA toSayitvA dvijaM vidhim ॥ gaurI bhavitumicchAmi ko doSaH kathyatAmiha ॥ 57 ॥

एवमुक्तो महादेव्या वामदेवः स्मयन्निव ॥ न तां निर्बंधयामास देवकार्यचिकीर्षया ॥ ५८ ॥
