उपमन्युरुवाच ॥ ब्रह्मघ्नो वा सुरापो वा स्तेयीवा गुरुतल्पगः ॥ मातृहा पितृहा वापि वीरहा भ्रूणहापि वा ॥ १ ॥
Upamanyu said:— A person who kills a brahmin or drinks alcoholic beverages or steals or sleeps with his spiritual master Whether he kills a mother or a father or a hero or an embryo.
english translation
संपूज्यामन्त्रकं भक्त्या शिवं परमकारणम् ॥ तैस्तैः पापैः प्रमुच्येत वर्षैर्द्वादशभिः क्रमात् ॥ २ ॥
Worship with devotion the mantra of Lord Śiva, the supreme cause. He will be freed from those sins for twelve years in succession.
english translation
तस्मात्सर्वप्रयत्नेन पतितो ऽपि यजेच्छिवम् ॥ भक्तश्चेन्नापरः कश्चिद्भिक्षाहारो जितेंद्रियः ॥ ३ ॥
Hence by all means let even a fallen man worship Śiva sustaining himself on alms and conquering the sense-organs. This he shall do if he is a devotee and none else.
english translation
कृत्वापि सुमहत्पापं भक्त्या पञ्चाक्षरेण तु ॥ पूजयेद्यदि देवेशं तस्मात्पापात्प्रमुच्यते ॥ ४ ॥
Even if one commits a great sin he is liberated from that if he worships the lord of the gods with devotion, repeating the five-syllabled mantra.
english translation
अब्भक्षा वायुभक्षाश्च ये चान्ये व्रतकर्शिताः ॥ तेषामेतैर्व्रतैर्नास्ति शिवलोकसमागमः ॥ ५ ॥
There are many persons who live solely on water or air and who emaciate their bodies by means of holy rites. They cannot attain Śivaloka through these rites.
