तत्र ये पातकिनरास्तेषां शास्ता त्वमेव हि ॥ शुभाशुभं च तत्कर्म चित्रगुप्तो लिखिष्यति ॥ ५१॥

You alone will be the chastiser of those who commit sins there. Citragupta will write down their auspicious and inauspicious activities.

english translation

tatra ye pAtakinarAsteSAM zAstA tvameva hi ॥ zubhAzubhaM ca tatkarma citragupto likhiSyati ॥ 51॥

नन्दीश्वर उवाच ॥ एतान्वरान्प्रगृह्याथ तत्क्षणात्कालभैरवः ॥ वामांगुलिनखाग्रेण चकर्त च विधेश्शिरः ॥ ५२॥

Nandīśvara said:— After receiving all these boons. Kāla-Bhairava, in a trice, cut off Brahmā’s head with the tip of the nails of the fingers of his left hand.

english translation

nandIzvara uvAca ॥ etAnvarAnpragRhyAtha tatkSaNAtkAlabhairavaH ॥ vAmAMgulinakhAgreNa cakarta ca vidhezziraH ॥ 52॥

यदंगमपराध्नोति कार्यं तस्यैव शासनम् ॥ अतो येन कृता निन्दा तच्छिन्नम्पञ्चमं शिरः ॥ ५३॥

The limb that commits offence shall be chestísed. Hence the fifth head that censured was cut off.

english translation

yadaMgamaparAdhnoti kAryaM tasyaiva zAsanam ॥ ato yena kRtA nindA tacchinnampaJcamaM ziraH ॥ 53॥

अथ च्छिन्नं विधिशिरो दृष्ट्वा भीततरो हरिः ॥ शातरुद्रियमन्त्रैश्च भक्त्या तुष्टाव शङ्करम् ॥ ५४॥

On seeing Brahma’s (Brahmā’s?) head cut off, Viṣṇu became terribly afraid. Devotedly he repeated the Śatarudriya mantras and eulogised Śiva.

atha cchinnaM vidhiziro dRSTvA bhItataro hariH ॥ zAtarudriyamantraizca bhaktyA tuSTAva zaGkaram ॥ 54॥

भीतो हिरण्यगर्भोऽपि जजाप शतरुद्रियम् ॥ इत्थं तौ गतगर्वौ हि संजातौ तत्क्षणान्मुने ॥ ५५॥

The frightened golden-wombed Brahma (Brahmā?) too performed the Japa of Śatarudriya. O sage, thus, in an instant, both of them were divested of their pride.

bhIto hiraNyagarbho'pi jajApa zatarudriyam ॥ itthaM tau gatagarvau hi saMjAtau tatkSaNAnmune ॥ 55॥
